742.30-06 I have no idea how many but that old gun has put alot of meat in my freezer.I have three 30-06 rifles.Second to that is my 7600.243.I purchased a 25-06 this year that I'm looking forward to hunting with.

.243 neck shots. drop them and there is not any tracking. just pick 'em up and leave. head for skinning rack.

I've never shot a deer with a rifle other than a 30.06 that I can recall. I don't suspect that will change.

Last year being my first year I've only killed 3 deer. The first I killed with a 30-06 at 80-90 yards ... BOOM/FLOP ... didn't even twitch.

Two others I killed with a 243. One dropped in its place (40 yard shot) and took about 5 minutes to die. The other (30 yard shot) ran a good 50-60 yards before dying.


All 3 were heart shots

Hence my desire to sell my Tikka T2 Lite 243 and get a 308 in the same model
