Shooters you keep asking for numbers. Danny just posted that he has caught over 100 this year and normally exceeds 200 a year. I can tell you that I have averaged over 5 per trip the last several years. What are your numbers and averages? Also, I have a few pictures of the big, old, smart hogs. You got any?

I agree 100% with that in swamp and thick places dogs COULD have there uses! I have used my friends Flir Scout PS24 thermal, lots of times in the woods to kill hogs with PVS-14,PEQ-15 , and Aimpoint on AR-15s. As long as you keep the wind right this WORKS very well on hogs.IM not trying to argue dogs are not effective at all. Im simple stating that MOST times trapping is more effective AND less intrusive. It all so gets more hogs per day . As I said earlier BODY count= number of hogs per day is what most land owners want.

It is not uncommon for a 1 man, 2 bay dogs, and a catch dog to catch 5 or more in one morning. I have been on hunts on large properties with 4 or 5 other guys and have caught upwards of 15. Numbers are numbers. U can catch 50 in a trap tonight on 100 acres and by Saturday 50 more may move in unless u buildings fence around it. A dead hog is a dead hog.

I couldnt post a picture if you had a gun to my head! grin I know nothing about net flix or what ever that thing is you use to post pictures. I mainly coyote trap. 191 coyotes last year. I trap for land owner that know me and help tham out. 2 1/2 weeks ago was last trip. Caught 42 in traps and shot 9 in three days. My total body count since May is only around 61. I mostly shoot them at night. I have hunted with night vision in 3 differnt states. Simply put I go were the MONEY is! This is the first time I have dusted of the traps in a while. But 2 days of trapping and 42 hogs speaks for itself. I AM by no ways in the LEAGUE with you,or Hogwild, i never claimed to be. I have trapped for 25 years, when the money is right I will bustout the hog traps. MY point has been show me the numbers. Trapping is more effective. I love to kill them with NV but I can see that trapping is more effective.

I think some of ya'll are comparing apples and oranges with skewed numbers....

TWO days...42 hogs....now is that a grand gross total of two days?? Like moving the trap, setting up, baiting, waiting, springing the trap.....cause I see a LOT more than two days in trap set ups........

Now if that is more like two weeks then lets compare a dogger at two weeks to be more comparable....

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Yeah, they forget about all the days that they scouted, set up traps, pre-baited, and then monitored....they pick the one day of setup and one day that it caught. It may have actually been a month or more!

Typical of a dog hunter, try to twist things around and make YOUR way sound better! grin If you open your eyes and read own the second page of this thread I discribed the whole process! I will repeat it to you. Day one arrive build trap, set feeder in back of trap spreading corn. 7 to 10 days latter check camera, that takes about 5 mins. Then i came back a fwe days latter climbed yp tree with remote, watched trap with PVS-14 till hogs ALL went in then hit the remote, and door closes. Repeat the second nite , simple is it?? I understand that some of you love to glorify hog-dog hunting, some just love to catch hogs with a dog. Great for you, have fun I have nothing against what your doing. The trapping IS less intrustive. I can accept the fact that dog hog hunting could be useful in certain places. Can you not except the fact that LOTS of deer managers and property owners dont want dogs running all over their property????

You two settle down. Both kill hogs and neither one of you are going to agree that one way is better than the other.

Agree to disagree thumbup

Ok, I'll throw a true number out there. Combined hours spent by two individuals from prebaiting, camera monitoring, trap construction, to loading hogs in the truck, including the occasional night trip shooting trap shy hogs, our total as of right now is 1 hog to every 1.8 hrs of effort. That includes every possible minute we spent on travel hours, monitoring cameras, looking at pictures etc.

Now if a dog hunter is going to provide a true number he has to provide hrs spent traveling, feeding dogs, stitching dogs, vet visits, running down rogue dogs with no manners etc.

Let's see it. wink

I'll give my hours last hunt...

load dogs, travel to hunt area....1/4 hour
turn out dogs, dogs bay, travel to bay, kill hog...1 hour
load hog, go to second bay, kill hog....3/4 hour

so 2 hours ...2 hogs.....1:1 ratio laugh

if ya add load second hog, travel to camp, skin hogs and ice em....2 hours

total camp to camp, iced hogs.....4 hours/2 hogs 1 hog for every 2 hours

and I'm 63 and slow and old...... rofl

My best day with two newly constructed traps and one that had been there for two years was 42 hogs. 22, 12, and 8 in the last one.

Since I am gonna have dogs regardless.......some of that is moot.

But, time spent in the field is pretty consistent with the average, I would think.

Now, all the other time feeding, Dr'ing. washing kennels, working dogs in pen, etc....no comparison!!!

BUT, I am doing all this for my personal enjoyment. So, therein exists the difference. I enjoy the SPORT! I have never claimed not to and I feel that many others enjoy the RIGHT to hunt just like I do. But, just because our 'reasons' for hunting are different does not change the total number of dead hogs that are produced as a result of our hunts.

And, shooters....don't sweat it. I knew you couldn't count anyway! smile

I think that Troy can attest to the fact that I kinda have 2 different modes....I can get just as serious as anybody and really be determined to get results....OR, I can be just as laid back and relaxed no matter what is happening. It just depends on my goal for that day.

And honestly, on MY place, I am more interested in having a good time and catching a 'good' hog than I am trying to catch a bunch.

Oh, and ....if I have to take one to the vet......it is more than likely a lost cause anyway. Between me, my Dad and my Uncle; we have done about as much surgery on animals as most vets! LOL

I can count the number of hogs in my traps and the number of Benjamins in my pocket from it! rofl Hogwild, i understand you point. Nothing wrong with getting them with dogs. Gettem any way you can is what I say! My arguement was hour per hour what does best for the least amount of time. Plus some people dont want lots of traffic on their land or dogs. Every land owner is differnet in his needs and wishes.
