I process my own. I grind everything except the tenderloins. I don't mess with the ribs or organs. Last doe my son shot weighed 120 and after processing we had 31 pounds of meat. One shoulder was not useable. So that makes 26%.
Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.
I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.

Also package my own and average about 30-35 pounds of packaged meat per deer. Nothing is ground. Wrapped packages average 2 lbs. From this year's first deer I got 18 packages. Want one more then I'm done.

I use as much as possible, that includes trimming rib meat for the grind, etc. Last year I weighed a deer that I killed, live weight then cut and wrapped. My yield was 33 %.

As long as Vernon is around I will not always be by myself at the bottom of the "good hunter" list. To answer the original question I would say 25-30%. I lucked up and had a Doe commit suicide that I estimated at 110 lbs and got 28 lbs of ground meat and back straps.

I figure about 1/3 of the live weight. I process my own as well, trim rib meat and just about anything I can grind up.

How aggressive do y'all get at trimming?
How much of the tendon do you strip out of the shanks and similar muscles?
We did one the other night, but didn't weight it before or after. I know there was about 8lbs of grind, but I only grind trimmings, neck,flank and shanks. Everything else gets cut into steaks and roast.

I usually do the whole deer in jerky so I get about a third or a fourth of what y'all get.
