Ive flown once and I was about 3 at the time so obviously I remember nothing about it. Well in a couple months im flying to North Dakota for a duck hunt and I was hoping to get some tips from the aldeer brethren who fly a decent amount or quite frankly, have ever flown.

I will be carrying on a gun. And atleast one clothes bag in addtion to my 2 permitted carry on bags.
Any tips on anything from food/drinks to gun specific details, and really anything help, please post up.

Thanks in advance,

Dylan

All you need to carry on is an extension chord...If the plane starts goin down, pop the hatch and jump holding one end of the extension chord..damn thing will hang up on something before you hit the ground.

Put your ammo in your gun case with your gun. Feel free to call me, if you have any questions. Have fun.

Im shipping the ammo to my buddy who lives up there. Figured that'd be better than paying for the weight of 6 or so boxes of steel shot.

I didn't have to pay any extra for over size or weight. Good ol' Southwest.

Phone charger and your camo are good things to have in a carryon. Remember to put your knife in your gun case, as well.

Wear slip on boots/shoes, no laces! They're not making folks take off shoes as much now, but it's not worth the hassle just in case.

Also do online check in and print your boarding passes, all you do when you show up is check your bags and head for security.

I'm curious, WTF are you taking to need an extra two check bags in addition to your two allowed bags?

According to United, they allow 2 carry ons. One somewhat smaller than the other.

One of the two will need to be a back pack or smaller bag. One can be decent size. I see a lot over the allowed size but not saying you should try it on my opinion so check the specs. You can plane side check it once you get to the plain if it is to big to bother with on the plane. This just allows you the peace of mind that it is on there and you will have it but you don't have to deal with it while on the plane. You have to grab it each time you get off though. No liquids gels or paste in containers I think over 1 ounce and they must all be in a zip lock bag. Leave your belt on if you want at security unless you have a huge buckle even though they say remove it. Take some snacks. If you dip you can get an empty bottle through.

I've gone both ways. 2 weeks in Africa in a backpack so I could carry on and also gone the check everything but the cellphone route. You will be fine. Carry a candy bar and if you get a chance to eat, do it. With delays etc, you never know when you may get a meal. Remember, landing is just a controlled crash wink sorry I'm a pilot and could not resist.
