I have a nearly 1 year old black lab I want to train to find sheds. I really am not sure where to start. Have any of you done this and can you give me any information on where to start or where I can find good information? Thanks

Bass Pro Shops sells a kit with a training antler and liquid scent that you can get started with. I think it also comes with a training booklet.

If your dog will already retrieve and can do some blind retrieve work, it seems you should be able to just start having him retrieve a real antler to you to get him used to it.

I've been thinking about doing that myself with my lab.

I've been doing some reading up on it today. Most people are saying the same things. I hope to get started next week. I may order the antler scent and see how it does.

I've got that kit and never used it....come and get it and you can have it.

I used the same stuff they are talking about and it worked…it's awesome to watch him find them…some dogs don't like carrying the "hard horns" in there mouth at first…if your dog is this way, you will need to buy the rubber horns to start off with…I bought it with my kit but turned out my dog don't mind the hard horns…now I use the rubber horns for his fetching toy instead of a ball

I gave mine a fresh antler for a chew toy, and after that when I carried her with me cruising timber she would find them and bring them up to show them off. Only problem was that she was even better at finding turkey nests, which put a stop to her trips in the spring.

Big thanks to Foldemup he actually had the stuff I was looking for and I met him yesterday to pick it up. Lord willing I plan in getting started with training next week.
