Was reflecting on the great memories I have of hunting with my son. There are many but I wanted to share the most memorable. It is of him killing his first deer which just happened to be a 130 class 9 point. He was 10 at the time (he is now 29) and I was in the stand with him when he shot. I will never forget the emotions that came out of this hunt. Had a good friend who told me how to get to the stand and will always be grateful to him for the part he played in this wonderful experience. We are truly blessed to be able to enjoy God's great outdoors!

Very nice - some things stick with you over time. That's a good one.

Great read, I agree we are fortunate. Has he been that lucky since then? Thats a great buck.

He had another great hunt 5 years later. He killed his 2nd mountable buck, another 9 point. Never had this one scored but guessing low 120's. Another memorable story behind this one. I jumped this deer in a clear cut and moved my climber closer to his bedding area. Hunted it once without seeing this deer. I put my son in the climber on our next hunt and the deer came in and stopped on the neighboring property less than 10 feet from the property line and the tree he was sitting in. He didn't shoot and the deer turned and walked back in the direction he came. Fortunately the deer loved his bedding area and re-entered the clear cut about 100 yards down the line and he was able to get a bullet in him. Took a long time to find him but persistence paid off. Note: the date on the picture is incorrect. Would love to hear some of y'alls great memories!

Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.

I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.

I was always amazed at how "lucky" my son was when he hunted with me. I think it was all of the prayers I said while he was there asking the Good Lord to let him see one. The prayers are still working even with him grown. He is still knocking em' down.

Two good reads. You've done good by your son and the memories are there for you both to cherish. I turned my son on to his first turkey when he was 10 years old. It had 3 beards 12, 9 & 8 inches and sported 1 1/2" & 1 1/4" spurs. It was an awesome bird but sadly he hasn't followed it with anything since. The bird is fully mounted and sitting in my office at home. I have the article that was in the paper as well as some old Kodak photos taken at the time. I'll post if able to figure out how. He's 22 now and about to start school. He just got out of the Marines. The memories are forever. Roll Tide.

I came, I saw, so I killed them all......Vern

I love hearing about hunting memories like this. I think there are many such stories and would love to hear more of them. I have personally never killed a trophy but I can honestly say that the 2 I have shared about in this thread mean more to me than if I had killed them myself. Even with my son now being 29 I would rather him be successful than myself.
