See if you can apply or qualify for a grant for re-forrestation at your countys extension office. A buddy bought 300 acres in hale co and had 100 acres planted for pennys on the dollar.

If you're in Henry County, I'd look at longleaf pines. Call your local Alabama Forestry Commission office.

If you're wanting to create bedding cover for deer there's a lot of better options than pines. If you're not wanting the financial returns of pines, I'd let it grow up naturally and keep it burned or mowed. I'm sure some guys on here can steer you in the right direction. After several years , pines turn into a wasteland unless your burning longleaf pines.
Everything woke turns to shucks

I bought some sawtooths from Porcupine hollow farms. They've got a lot of different pine trees. Some of the prices I remember $0.29 to $0.50 for a thousand

Might as well make some money with your land. You can mark off the areas you want to leave for your foodplots. If it was pastureland, you may need to rip it before planting. You can write off your planting cost on your taxes.

Old pasture land, you can get cost share to do longleaf. It will probably run around $100 to clear (it was grown up for 15 years), $100 for herbicides next summer $45 for planting and $90 for trees (containerized at 500 per acre) per acre. Cost share should return you about 50% of that. Loblolly (done right) will cost the same minus $45 for trees. A good longleaf stand is an excellent, and huntable, bedding area!
