How many miles is that from the Gulf? Driving, it is right at 50 miles from Mobile to McIntosh. More than likely, that is a small bull shark and was probably born in the upper region of Mobile Bay...they can live in fresh water. It's not uncommon to see them caught upriver, especially this time of year, when the rivers down here have a higher salinity level due to lack of rain.

I can't believe that I will be the first to say, in a thread this long:
People get bit messin with sharks.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Where did he pick up the pirate? What kind of self-respecting pirate wears a life vest? One that is a non swimmer. In seriousness though it would be very easy to drown if you fell in with a weighed down trot line hook in you. Looks like a small bull shark to me, but I'm no expert on them. There are several bulls caught each year in the river well north of the bay.

Here's a bull shark caught on the Tensaw River, 10 miles north of Mobile Bay... ...not a good idea to hold them like that, though...bulls will lay quiet for a long time after you think they're dead, then reach out and BITE...and they don't just lash out randomly, they'll wait until something's close that they know a bite will hurt! As mentioned earlier, bull sharks have been caught way up north, +/- 2000 miles from the Gulf!

Where did he pick up the pirate? What kind of self-respecting pirate wears a life vest? At the risk of exposing my prejudicial tendencies....... THOSE pirates are only afraid of snakes more than they are the water. You see them on the river in their 70's model Glastron tri hulls wearing life jackets they wore to bed the night before. Just to be on the safe side. Lol
