My buddy asked me the other day if I wanted to come up to his club and help him get his first turkey. Its a 1,000 acre club that nobody turkey hunts. After a couple of quick morning hunts learning the property I found this big field that the turkeys are coming to as soon as they fly down so we get set up yesterday morning in the field. We heard a few gobbles and we had a couple gobblers slowly closing the distance gobbling good, when the bird gets about 100 yards off the field he hangs up and 2 jakes and a hen come up the road into the field. The hen went to the gobbler in the woods and he shut up so I told my buddy if he wanted to shoot a jake he could, and he layed the hammer down on his first bird at 7:30 at 30 yards! 6" beard 1/4" spurs 14lbs  This morning we decided to go back to the same field and see if we could get the gobblers to come in. We got set up and around 5:45 a bird gobbles one time behind us around 200 yards on a powerline. Then 5 or 6 more started hammering away all around the field. We were sitting there listening to all of the birds when the powerline bird gobbled right behind us at 60 yards! It was 5:55 and I couldnt believe that he flew down and closed the distance that early and quick. I told Tyler to get his gun ready that he was coming and i left my gun in my lap thinking it was only one bird. About 5 minutes later I see him out of the corner of my eye at 15 yards, and hes got two of his buddies with him. They saw the jake decoy and went running straight to him, I was able to get my gun up with them being so focused on the decoys. I told Tyler to shoot when he could and he laid the hammer down again at 25 yards and the other two birds took off running and i managed to get one at 40 yards. We had 2 birds down and it was only 6:00! We ended up with a double and Tyler's first longbeard and second bird in as many days. I couldn't have asked for a better week hunting turkeys. I was proud to help Tyler get his first birds and me getting to shoot one was just a bonus. Tyler's bird 10 1/4" beard L spur 1" R spur 7/8" weight 20lbs My bird 11" beard 1" spurs 17lbs 6oz
