I have had good success on Choccolocca WMA near Heflin. I believe there is some camping access near there also.

Other things being equal, it is the man who shoots with his heart in his bow that hits the mark.

since you are in Alexander City, I would say Hollins or Coosa. Good hunting both places but very different from one another.

Not sure abt the camping portion of your wish but the cahaba wma has great hunting. Found some scrapes out there on Sunday when I was stumbling around. I've been to coosa abunch to turkey hunt and cahaba is 10:1 better for deer imo, good luck on Ur trip whichever one u go to

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

Yep it is. The full name is William R Ireland Sr Cahaba River WMA. That might be why you couldnt find it. Good luck.

Choccolocca, Oakmulgee, and Barbour are all good bowhunting WMAs that have hunter camps. Barbour has a 3 point on one side restriction and would be my choice of the three for a good buck. Oakmulgee and Choccolocca are both excellent places for meat. The states hunting website(AlabamaOutdoors.com ?) has harvest data for the last few years on each of the WMAs if that would help with your decision. My club lost our land a couple of years ago and I have been hunting Choccolocca some, and with decent success. I killed my first deer ever at Oakmulgee. And we rarely drove home from Barbour back in the heyday of WMAs without a deer or two. I would love to reccommend Kinterbish, but it is no longer there.

Biggest deer I've seen on the hoof in Alabama was on Choccolocca. As earlier post said; it is good for meat, but there are some monsters if you know where to hunt. Since I don't live or hunt there any more; I will say this. If I was meat hunting I usually hunted around hwy 9 or the Heflin side. If I wanted to see a big one; I hunted the archery only area that is in the city limits of Anniston up on the mountain that used to be Fort land. Great bucks on that side and an early rut. I've seen chasing as early as Thanksgiving.
