Does anyone know where some of the bow hunting only public lands in the state are?

Most WMA's are bowhunting only until the two day hunts they have. You will have the WMA all to yourself during the week. I hunted for years on the refuges here in North Alabama and never was bothered by a single soul. I did not hunt the planted green fields, rather the woods. The hunting was great.

Seven Mile Island doesn't have any deer or hogs. They have all moved to the sports complex on Savannah Highway to take advantage of the fields that have been planted there! Local media had a field day on the hog damage to the new playing fields. People had no clue we had such critters here in North Alabama. Seven Mile Island is getting better every year!

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone know About Wheeler refuge? Bow only? Place looked pretty good one year when I crossed the river bridge and seen those corn fields near the water.

Be careful uder the bridge. Some "Elton John" types hang out there.

mtm, many of the Army Corps of engineers properties are bowhunting only. These places are a good deal that a lot of people don't seem to know about. They will usually not be really large pieces of land but there are a lot of them. Almost all are right along waterways and have good numbers of deer. Not sure if they still do it but back when I hunted some of them they actually planted green patches on some of them and gave out maps of the lands with these patches marked. Free permit to hunt them too. I rarely saw another person when I visited them but then it's been years since I hunted one of these places.

Some of them have gotten to be pretty popular with people now days. I've hunted some of the locations the last few years and generally had to get there early for a spot.

Here's one way to contact the Corps: permit application [Edit: I got a msg. about the website's security certificate, but opened it anyhow with no obvious bad results. It is the official govt website]
