Lot of bow hunters will kill smaller bucks because ,,,,, well , I was using my bow if I was gun hunting I'd passed him up. Lol

I love that one

Not everyone wants to shoot trophy deer, some folks just want to have fun and shoot what makes them happy.

I’d just like to focus on that with my kid and get him hooked on the outdoors.

what we are shooting (if legal) is None of anyone else’s business.

Damn, deer hunting is supposed to be a fun enjoyable activity

I agree but with today's kids they learned more about self-gratification than hunting . They aint taught how to hunt they taught how to kill. Most if not all kids are taught ,,,, plant a green field , fill a spreader with corn set in a box shot deer . I'm fine with it .

The real fun is in small game and that will teach them a lot stuff about hunting and how too hunt. Make them better deer and turkey hunters too. Hunting now ah days ain't taught like it was in the past.

I agree, but 1 squirrel doesn't make good social media.

I bet if you didn’t have great property your mind would change especially with grandkids. It’s easy for guys to preach when they have good places. I used to be one of those guys. Property sold 3 years ago and it’s been a struggle ever since.

Manage how u see fir - screw what everybody thinks

Killing a mature is hard. I aint got them tame deer that stand over corn

I would use a mix of both fun and progression with more fun the younger they are

Just do you - i doing what works for my family

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self
We need prayer for our country now more than ever

I killed the PISS out of spikes, and small bucks growing up, who am I to put the “trophy” burden on any kid who hunts with us.
My kids don’t want to shoot little bucks anymore, but if they want to pop a 2 yr old 8 point I’m not going to bat an eye.

I really don't worry about what the next person wants to shoot, I have killed my share of small bucks coming up, so now I have the patience to let them walk and don't judge others.....I let my wife shoot whatever she wants to, I have worked with her on deer age and letting small bucks walk, but if she decides she is just ready to drop one, she has the green light....

This....

Yall do you, I'll do what I want. If my kids want to kill 2 dinks and a small 8. We all celebrate the kill and enjoy the venison. I hardly kill a buck these days - try to save them for the kids. I want it to be fun for them, and not have to sit for hours twiddling their thumbs. Sorry for my neighbors.. but like its been discussed and beat to death on these forums, my 215 acre place isn't big enough to manage a herd on anyway. But it is big enough to have some fun on, see and kill a few deer each year, and give my boys a place to hunt where there are no stodgy rules and huffs from fellow hunters when they don't hold out for a 140" buck.

You would be surprised how easy a grown man can justify shooting any buck..if in a club, it's tough too. They usually have point restrictions. If it's 6pt or better, logic is, if I don't shoot that 6pt, next guy will.. or I didn't shoot anything last year so I'm due.

For mine their first rack buck could be any rack buck, after that, club rule. I'm not the most experienced at aging myself. And it's tough when a deer is moving. Not being able to bait on timber leases makes it tougher too.

I got a monster 4pt on camera last night. I'd shoot him if I saw him most likely, I bet he tops 200 pounds.

Yep, I’m in a club and there are lots of young bucks killed. I have let several walk that end up being shot. Trying to let it go since they paid same amount of money I paid and are within club rules. It just doesn’t do anything for me to kill a less than mature buck anymore, so I let them go. Plus the does taste better anyway

As for kids, let them have fun and grow to love the outdoors. If that means killing young bucks, so be it. Yall do remember not that long ago, you could kill a buck a day if you wanted to. Guess what, we still have bucks….

I remember when this was fun. The first time I took my kids, they ran through the woods jumping on every brush pile or fallen tree, singing "Who Let Them Dogs Out" at the top of their lungs. Teaching them, or their kids, that you don't shoot a buck unless.... is not part of my training program.

I tell my kids and anyone else hunting with me, to shoot what makes them happy. I don't give a damn what nobody says. ..

The hard to kill ones that have had everyone after them every day they've been alive are trophies. Your pet deer is nothing. Zero. Trophy management is a bad joke born of a perverse mind consumed by antler lust. It's the same as these boys worshiping artificial over-sized body parts on girls and paying them for videos and undergarments. Pathetic.

SPOT ON !

“The hard to kill ones that have had everyone after them everyday they’ve been alive are trophies.”

Do you hear the words that are coming out of your mouth??

You don’t have to coddle, protect or feed a deer for it to live long enough to get full grown. All you have to do is not shoot it.

I really thought most people on this forum had common goals as far a deer herd management goes. Man was I wrong.

It is hard you aren’t wrong. I looked for the right club for 10 years before I found it. They are out there.
