I am wanting a battery backup to power my fiber modem and router. Basically want to keep my internet going to communicate with my security alarm system until power restored.
I have one in use for my camera system and modem/router connected also but it doesn't last long. I want a separate battery for the modem/router in hopes this will run for several hours. Don't have numbers for power consumption on router/modem. Not looking for a business size UPS. Maybe up to $200-300.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hard to size it if you don’t know what your draw is going to be.

Ethernet gateway:
Power consumption
12 V DC, 3.0 A
36 Watt max

Figure the same or less for the fiber modem.

So guessing 80 watts max for the draw.

If I went with a 1500VA/900W UPS and had 80 watts of draw on it with a full battery, how long would the charge last before it shutdown??

I have 2 APC 650VA UPS systems, One on each of my WiFi bridges at my house and barn (BTW a great way to provide WiFi to a barn/workshop) and the camera systems at each location. The one at the house also powers my Internet DSL Router. They will hold for about 2 hours. They also have surge protection only outlets too for my stereos/TVs at each location. They are the 650VA ones and are about $100 each.

I recently had a lightning strike in my yard that fried a $800 Yahama Stereo receiver. I filed the paperwork for APCs included protection plan and they paid $550 towards a new receiver. Can't beat that!

CyberPower also has some in that price range. Just bought one for our office for less than $200. Quick question about your security alarm- does it not use a cell module for primary comms? When I was in the security biz a few years back, most (if not all) systems we installed either had built in cell cards or external cell module which would have been backed up by the system battery during power loss.

I have been looking at CyberPower as well. Yes, my security has cell back-up but sometimes reception can be an issue so having internet also up and running helps.

We use CyberPower for systems we install at work. I use APC or CyberPower for my home stuff, pleased with both.

Look at APC’s website and find the model that interests you. The spec page should have a link to the runtime graph where you can see what that 80W load gets you.
