I bought one today. Planning on using it to break bolts on bushhog blades, disc axels and such. First thing right off, it takes a larger diameter quick connect fitting, it would be a 3/8" instead of my usual 1/4" fittings. Ive watched some videos on this. Have any of yall ever had any experiences with this impact? It says 1700ftlbs of torque. But improper air delivery can cut that down. However it runs off 90psi. Im having a hard time making sense of all that and figuring out what i need to do to set it up.

Big air hose it will need volume of air. Years ago I had a1/2 in hose hooked up not sure of pressure. Was told Togo with a 3/4 or 1 in hose. It worked. I nicer adjusted to pressure.

Never used a Harbor Freight brand , but many others from 1/4- 1" . A 3/4 drive is not gonna run at full potential unless you have 3/8 quick connect, 3/8 air hose and a compressor big enough to spin it and keep up air pressure on big stuff . It'll do better at 110-120 lbs psi also. You can get threaded reducer and step it down to 1/4" but 3/8', or bigger ,all the way will be much better .

I got a 3/8 quick connect. I have a good 50ft airhose here i had clamped a fitting on, so i thought i would clamp the 3/8 quick connect on it. My air compressor is 28gal, i know thats a little small but im hoping itll be enough for how ill be using it, maybe 2-4 nuts to break on a particular job. Im not going to be using it often or alot on any particular job. Ill find out about my hose idea tomorrow. I might have to get a size bigger hose. I got 3 out of 4 nuts off my bushhog with a 3/4 ratchet, #4 broke the ratchet. I plan on heating the other one before i put the impact on it.

I just changed blades on a 2615l bushog. 1” drive ingersol with a 1/2” air hose wouldn’t even break most of them loose. Get them glowing red with a torch and they will come off. A big iron rod and a fence post driver will knock the bolts out.

I have the earthquake rechargeable (I think 20v) and highly recommend it. It has been a game changer around the farm. If you hit the trigger, you better be holding on. I can't vouch for the air version.

To brake really large bolts loose you will need higher pressure and as said before a larger line to provide more volume at said pressure. Not sure your going to get that with your set up. But if you can break it loose with a cheater bar the impact will make it much easier to back it on off.

Need a 1 inch hose @ 100 psi for best results. 15 yrs with IR, I've used a bunch of them. Can't speak for the HF, but the IR is a handful of tool.

You are correct, Sir. A 1" hose and a compressor that can maintain 100 psi + will spin it.

It says 90psi on the box. I do figure the volume will be a problem.

Heres the spec sheet. It recommends a 1/2" hose, i figure ill end up having to get a bigger hose. What size 5ank would it take to get 9cf/min?

Before retiring and battery powered tools on big jobs that’s what we used ^^^^^, after battery came along we got Milwaukee 1” drive and 12amp batteries

It's not all about the tank size , the compressor does the work.

My bad, I was thinking 1 inch drive, 3/8 npt inlet should be ok with 1/2" hose to work as designed. It's more about the volume used and keeping the 90 psi supply without dropping pressure to quick. a small compressor would have to be used in short bursts and allow pressure to build back up and go again.

I looked up the tank size. 9cfm/90psi comes up to 36gal tank. Im assuming that would be running it continuously. I figure ill have to let the pressure build up now and then. Ill try it out tomorrow and see what happens

I believe you would be better off taking it back and getting the battery powered version. I have one of the 1/2” battery powered ones and I never hook up my pneumatic anymore. The battery powered one is stronger than my air also and it is very mobile. You will probably be starved for air and only get 2-4 good hits before it’s out of breath with the one you have.

Most residential air compressors come plumbed with 1/4” fittings and nipples so no matter if you upgrade to a bigger hose and quick connect you are still going to have the restricted air flow. Those pneumatic impacts work more off volume of air than they do pressure.

Be very careful with the harbor freight stuff, had a buddy use one and it exploded and hit hit his son in the eye!

The impact gun exploded or the socket he was using on the gun exploded? Is he ok?
