Has anyone ever searched their name in the state treasury website for unclaimed monies owed to them? I searched last week and found I have something from my old mortgage company that was over $100. I’m thinking back that it may have been excess money in escrow when we sold our house back in 2019 that we never got the check for the excess so it went to the state as unclaimed. Well, I filed a claim and I’m signed up for informed delivery with USPS where they send you an image of what items are expected to be delivered that day. On august 31st received the email with a letter from the state treasurer office stating the letter would be delivered on the 31st. No letter came. I assumed today the letter came, again no letter. All the other items in the mail were received but that letter. I called the state, and asked if it actually was a check or just information that i need to fill out, and the lady said it was a check. My sneaky assumption is someone within the USPS intercepted that letter and is planning on washing the check and getting it addressed to themselves. Not sure if anyone else ran into this issue.

AwHell. I remember when Baldwin County put a list in the local newspaper telling people you needed to stop in and claim your money. Men flooded in, only thing was it was a trap for deadbeat dads. Fob James was forced to rule it entrapment and no charges were given.

Lord. Funny right there. Did find out it was $164. We shall see if i get it.

We have lived at current address for 20+ years. Received a letter saying we had unclaimed funds. It turned out to be our 2022 state tax return. Had to send multiple documents to get the check. After i submitted the documents the check came in less than week. Not sure why we did not get the original check.

Uhmmm , many years ago I never got a $17 refund from the state , I wonder ???

With my luck if I did that they would say..."hey we've been looking for you. You owe us $18,023.19."

Thanks for the post, I didn't know about this and turns out I have unclaimed property. Have now filled out the application. How do I find how much to expect or do I just wait for it to come?

Not Alabama, but did NC. I got back some deposit money IIRC for utilities.

I just filled out the claim and the check finally came today. You can call them with the claim number and they will tell you the exact amount.

I did it with a long forgotten health care reimbursement and it was very simple. My mother though had some in there and that required Death Certificates and notarization, and other proof that it was her money. In her case, it was enough to get her grandkids some nicer things.
