That station is in a historically high crime spot and the woke Bham administration wants to blame the owners of the property and whoever they have it leased too. What are they supposed to do to prevent the crime on the surrounding neighborhoods and streets. Just another example of large city government passing the blame onto someone else and opening the door for more lawsuits against people who are just trying to make a living.

That store must be making enough money from somewhere to justify staying there. I'm guessing most profits are made out the back door.

So it’s up the local businesses to prevent and fight crime? Huh…this whole time I thought that was the responsibility of the police department. Maybe the business should sue the city for not providing an adequate police presence.

As messed up as this sounds. In this case: The city complained first.
If the business complained first then they probably could sue the city, but not now.

The city saw the problem and got pro-active about getting ahead of their own irresponsibility.

Local chevron station used to be a place to stop and get a biscuit in the morning and a snack or pizza slice.

Sale were sloooowwww so they started being a head shop so to speak. Tobacco supplies and pipes and lots of mj knockoff products

Totally different clientele now. I haven’t stopped by in years. Last time I bought a bag of ice and couldn’t see the cashier for all the Delta 8 products. 😝

After the statues downtown got tore up, should all the businesses sue Bham because they stood and watched as they got torn up afterwards? You blame the businesses but not the residents of Bham. So where's the police? If it's a high crime area, shouldn't there be more of a presence there if you were really concerned about reducing crime?

Last report I saw/heard was the city saying the store had an obligation to hire a police officer for security on the property…..yeah that’s stupid when they know there’s a problem there and should step up patrols

I actually applaud Birmingham for this. Start holding shady business accountable. I wish Montgomery would do the same.

How is it the store responsibility to control how people act ?

The business should hire a Birmingham police officer?

Then on the flip side, businesses (like walmart) got heat for locking up beauty products because it disproportionally affected minorities. Do you want a business to be proactive or not? We lock up our products we’re racist, we let things get stole and eventually close the store, we’re racist.
