The hot ticket down here now is " Headwaters " in Fellesmere FL. https://www.stickmarshfishingguide.com/lakes/headwaters-lake/They prepped this place with dozers and planted Cypress trees etc. before flooding it.. Then they stocked it and let it simmer for several years. The only problem with a big pre planned pilgrimage there is it's easy to get blown off. Farm 13 and the Stick Marsh are the same way. There are some lakes inland to retreat to if needed. I want to go sometime. There's really nothing there other than a ramp and parking. If you ever get to fish any of these central Florida lakes, the Bird life is truly incredible. You will enjoy that part also.

Orange Lake, between Ocala and Gainesville. My best came from there. It weighed 13 5. Fellesmere "won" on the numbers, but Orange Lake produced the biggest fish. I caught my 13 5 at Orange around 40 years ago, so I would say the lake has withstood the test of time. https://myfwc.com/news/all-news/battle-lakes-1123/

It’s amazing how many fish that lake can hold. They still catch monster bass out of there but are more know for their bream fishing now. I used to fish the stick marsh quite a bit. I heard it has made a comeback.

A trip to Orange Lake is pretty hard to beat if you have a tank of big wild shiners. Don't be shy to put on the big one. I also got my personal biggest there (12) When you become good at shiner fishing, you can start visiting nearby Rodman Reservoir. Harder to fish than Orange (imho) but with equal or better benefits. You need a serious live well and a big bait budget to do this. Rodman is good but you better know where you are going. Underwater stumps everywhere in certain areas.
