“ There are some great educational and social advantages available through home schooling if utalized. I have seen the best and the worst. The best far out way the worse. I hope this helps sir.” #homeskooled Smile….you know that chit is funny. I’m in favor of homeschooling when no better options are available. If I still lived in the town where I was born and raised, there is zero doubt ours would have been homeschooled. We chose to move into one of the top school districts in the state before our kids were school age. So far it’s worked to perfection. Our daughter will graduate next month with a 4.6GPA and is a National Merit Finalist who was offered free ride full scholarships to 25+ major colleges and universities. Momma must be smart. 🤔

I live in mobile. I, my wife, and both our kids graduated from private school. Both the wife and I attended public school first. If private school was not available here we probably would have homeschooled ours. BUT, I will say that the home school families I know don't do it well. They did not prepare the kids for the rigors of college. The parents did not keep the kids on a schedule. It was more like school was done in the spare time. But I know that may not be typical It's not typical. Homeschooled kids score higher on standardized test than traditionally educated students according to the data. The hard truth is that the education system in this country isn't designed to turn out well educated, independent thinkers. It's designed to indoctrinate kids into being SJ warriors and group thinkers that are ill equipped to do much more than follow instructions. If they achieve anything more than that it's in spite of the public schools, not because of them. That doesn't sit well with the folks who think public schools are preparing children better than parents can but it's the truth regardless if they like it or not. Some systems are better than others but if they are part of publicly funded education they are part of a system designed to hinder your child's invidual success.

Lots of homeschooling myths and misinformation on here. 14 years of homeschooling experience. That's all I will contribute.

Myself and my wife home schooled our kids. I have a degree in Biology and one in Chemistry from Auburn. (I'm retired from the state). My wife is smarter than I am and had some college. Both of our boys turned out great from homeschooling. I have never seen the need to have 12 years of english. Lots of repeated stuff in public school. We did this because (came to it separately) each felt that God was calling to do this.

For the most part Home school kids are sheltered from the real world and do not function in society very well. Tebo was the exception due to his size and athletic ability. Not your common kid. Auburn-Opelika had a home school football team for a while. Had a stud for a QB. He couldn’t have carried the water bucket for a 2A school. The team went to a 8 man team and has since been disbanded. How many parents out there are qualified to teach beyond kindergarten? Ballard by any chance?

Not dropped out, fluked out, were told they couldn't get a degrer. The answer zero, you keep paying and you get to stay, and eventually get that degree. Weather you learned anything or not. I've heard the athletes with four years of high school English, and PASSED two years of college English and couldn't write a sentence if you doubled their nil! I had a 4.0 at a community College for a year. Unlike most people who go to college, I had to pay 100% out of my pocket. No help from parents or government. After a year I failed to see the advantage of paying for something I would never use. Dropped out and got a job, which is exactly what most people would do if they had to pay for it on their own. The few that did , got loans and now they don't want to pay them. Hmmm
