I planted about 10 acres of buckbuster premium seed this year and it performed very poorly compared to wms and even regular 3 way that I planted this year. Has anyone else had experience with this seed brand?

I wouldnt cast too much judgement considering the weather this year. Nothing i planted did as well as it should. At this point im just proud to have anything at all.

My wms survived 6 weeks of drought and has deer in it every day. I talked to one of the guys there for 20 min about some of their products…very impressed and don’t see me switching to anything else

I have planted WMS and Buck Buster's seed for the last 10 yrs on 24 green fields. The Buck Buster's does great! Satisfied with both brands.I agree with JWalker, don't judge any seed by last years performance. Weather changed everything.
Continue with BB for another year and then judge.

Thanks. One thing I did different this year is get fertilizer in a buggy vs bag. Is it possible to get fertilizer in bulk that is not effective or gone bad? I know nitrogen can dissipate but it’s almost like it didn’t fertilize. I put 400 lbs per acre out to achieve 60-80-80. Thanks.

I fertilized and so did Hayman around the same time. Both of us have said it was like the fertilizer didn’t do right either. Just a weird year.

I think this year foliar fertilizer would have been a better choice because of the weather. I imagine alot of the granual nitrogen is in the atmosphere now. Enough moisture via dew and fog to get it to melt but not enough to get it in the ground. Foliar fertilizer you sprayon the leaf, the pores open to get the dew and they get the fertilizer too. I know my sons plot we planted right ahead of tge drought way out performed all my plots. The only difference i know of was that he sprayed foliar fertilizer.

Did you put up exclusion cages at planting ? Without doing so means any possible explanation is just a wild azz guess.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Also, seed like from WMS and Buck Busters need good PH - 6.5 TO 7. to really do the job. Always do a soil sample if you are going to plant expensive seed like these.

Yes I put out exclusion cages and all my ph levels are from 6.2-6.8. Sounds like weird year is the answer.
