My Marlin did just fine yesterday. It leaves a pretty gnarly blood trail..

30/30 is what David actually used to hanker Goliath.

First cartridge I ever loaded for was 30/30 150 grain Speer bullets and W760 powder. Worked just fine.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

My granddaddy— I’m told — called em “saddle guns.”
They’d be laying out a drive. “We’ll put the boys with the saddle guns right over here.”

Well, if any of yall have a marlin 30-30 that is just too sorry a gun to take the life of a deer, i would buy it at a fair price. I been looking for one. Seems a little strange how expensive they are considering they are insufficient for killing deer. Looks like all the mighty hunters would just get shed of them, maybe go buy a 50bmg

I always knew a 30-30 was weak, I kilt a train load
of deer and hogs with a 35 though. My youngest boy still hunts with it primarily.

Course he wears designer handcuffs when he does

A couple years ago I broke my old 336 out and started hunting with it some. Coupled with Hornady Lever Revolution ammo, it's deadly. I killed a few with it this time around and none have went more than 25 yards so far. I've probably killed somewhere between 70 and 90 deer with my A-bolt in 25.06 but I think I may like my old thutty thutty better right now. Not to mention, the gun just feels right in my hand.

Today's deer require a minimum of 300 Winchester magnum shooting solid copper bullets to penetrate their ultra thick hides.

Don't even think about using Ballistic Tips...

I carry either a 30-30 or a 45/70 90% of the time I gun hunt.

My longest shot to date on a deer was with a 30-30 at 548 yards

3030 aways has been my favorite gun to carry. Who doesn't enjoy 7 shots and a short comfortable gun with cheapest ammo?

If you don't have faith in one, go find a tree a foot thick and shoot at it 50, 75yds Away.

It will blow smooth through it. I was doing that at 12yrs old.

After seeing that, I had to google the ballistics on that... You're talking about an 11ft drop at that distance. How in the world did you make that kind of shot

I put the rear site elevator on the highest notch then put a penny under it. That's spot on at 5 yards, 11ft high at 250 and dead on at 550

I used my old dads 30.30 for years. I killed some and had a couple of nice one's get away though and finally went to a 30.06. Never had a deer take more than two steps and usually just pile up when shot. One and done. I prefer the 30.06 now.

Even though I have a yard full of does most nights, my chances of seeing a deer in legal shooting light have been practically zero for 15 years. My last .30/30 was the rare 1983 Marlin 336TS with the 18.5” barrel and a straight English stock. A friend of mine wanted it for his collection, so I sold it to him this past summer.

That was the 4th .30/30 I had owned, and all were good deer guns.

You should take up hunting with a self bow. That way you'll see plenty of deer. They will all be out past 30 yards, but you'll see plenty. grin

Not to be a prick, but I sure hope some of you who said "one/some got away" that you shot with a .30-.30 are just kidding. Because if you're not, that means you absolutely didn't hit a vital organ or artery on the deer you're talking about. Inside of 200 yards, a .30-.30 is all any of you/me need. A 150 grain bullet, even with a marginal shot coming from that gun.....well, they aren't getting away.
