Hello all, I don't post too often on here but wanted to share something that I know will never happen in my lifetime again. I took off last week so that I could catch the cold front right before thanksgiving and ended up having a week I will never forget. Last Saturday (opening rifle) I saw quite a few deer but nothing mature. On Sunday morning I sat on a clear cut that joins an overgrown pasture. After seeing a few does I saw a group of bucks working there way through the brush about 300 yards away straight to me. One of them was a buck I recognized. Once he got about 200 yards out and was quartered to me, I squeezed a shot into his shoulder. He took a quick dirt nap. This buck I had started calling 'Velvet' because he was still in velvet two weeks in bow season (1st pic). His rack was nothing special but he was a good mature deer for me. YouTube video of this buck![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/dtWGx3t/1.jpg) On Monday morning I went back to the same stand not planning on seeing anything but just to be semi close to a friend I took out with me. An hour after sunrise I saw a few bucks heading my way in what is now just a really overgrown pasture (exact same route the deer I shot the day before took). I pulled the bino's up and quickly realized that the only other 4+ year old buck I had regularly on that land was heading my way. Once he made it about 150 yards towards me I rushed the shot (I video all of my hunts and post them to my small YouTube channel) because I was trying to get the camera on him while he walked across a small clearing. I made a crap shot but fortunately he ran closer towards me and I stood up and free handed another shot and got him down. As of this day, he was my largest AL buck. Probably nothing special compared to some of you beast on here but good for me ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/47WsxYW/2.jpg) I skipped Tuesday morning to work on some video editing BUT I noticed that a really nice 4.5 year old 8 point came out that morning on another small tract I have. I haven't gotten any pictures of him in over 4 weeks and I almost got a shot on him during bow opener afternoon but another buck spooked and he ran away with him (This is on episode 1 for this year on my YouTube channel). I decided that I would try and hunt him Tuesday afternoon since I knew he couldn't be bedded too far away. I saw a lot of deer that afternoon but they'd all pretty much moved on by 4:30P. I noticed some movement, right at last light, around the same area he typically comes out in and saw an old 6 point that he always travels with. I turned the camera on record and just kept it pointed at that area and also pulled the scope up. Just as I did, I saw him. He was sparring with another 8 point and it was now getting dark and they were standing in a shaded spot by a lot of cover. Finally he stuck his head up so I could make him out and squeezed a high shoulder shot on him. I quickly reloaded and put the scope back in that spot and saw that he had folded up. I was then struck by a lot of different emotions. I had videoed this deer several times last year hoping he would become a stud of a deer that he did become. I also knew I wouldn't be chasing him any longer and I knew that this season that generally consumes my life for four months, was over. I have another hunt in texas in a few weeks but I'll spend the rest of season here taking friends hunting and videoing their hunts. Hope you all have a great season and this is one I will never forget and I know that will never happen again. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/QYswpMb/3.jpg)

I’m still going to hunt 😀, I’ll just be doing it with a video camera and having a some friends tag along for me to record. Only have one more mature buck that frequents these tracts so I’m gonna try to get a friend on him and just wait until the rut starts, then hope I can get friends on a few more.

Nice work!! Bucks were definitely on their feet opening week. Did you leave the plane at the eufaula airport or drive this time? I had lunch at Sam's a couple times last week and saw a few over there I owe all the credit to that cold front and a ton of luck! I left the plane up here in bham, this definitely means I’ll be flying it down more during season since I won’t need to get around as much on the land. You guys having any luck yet?
