I’m seeing where I can use my boat to get easier access to harder to get to walk in areas on public land. How are y’all securing your boats for those that use them. Chain to a tree? Hide battery? Lock motor to boat hull? I know a battery powered grinder with cutoff wheel is all it takes to cut locks and chain. Just want to weigh risk vs reward

When I hunted river access we just tied the boat up and went hunting. Not a lot of thieves running the river in the winter.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

You just rope up to a tree. It’s always a gamble, as with anything in life.

If they want it they'll get if . Lock your motor chain the boat hid the battery .

I wouldn't make it easy for them . Put a texting cam on it . GPS locater on it

Thanks fellas. Normally with it being winter I wouldn’t worry about it. However there a tons of duck hunters running the river during that time.

I give up the boat hunting a while back but when I was in it hard and heavy I just took the keys with me in the woods. Never had an issue.

When we hunt the river, we just chain the boat to a tree and go hunting. Never really thought about it. Most people out there during that time are doing the same thing you are.

Used to hunt on the river a lot. Never worried about theft. Did worry about big boats with big wakes. Swamped my boat a couple times.

I always said - if I lived in a certain area - I would get a old boat and that public land on river would b my club. Not naming area so I don’t ruin it for some body if they hunting there

We just pulled up and tied off when I did it and in turkey season - u could hav one gobbling his head off 20 yards off the bank and they never were bothered by your engine caise boats run up and down that river 24-7 - pretty neat way to hunt and I ran into way less hunters than u see at the walk In Areas. And u can cover a heck of a lot of ground quickly and drive rite up to them w out spooking as long as they did not see u

I unplug my stator leads to the switchbox. It damn sure won’t crank for them if they try messing with it .

Make sure you've paid your insurance & just take your key.

What could they do? Steal the boat. Steal the gas can. Take the motor. Steal stuff in the boat. Let's say you've taken all of those precautions and they are unable to get anything they want. They could pull your plug and leave it sitting on the bottom for you.

And none of that is any different than any other time you get out of your truck. They might steal anything left in the truck bed. May steal anything inside if it isn't locked. May take the truck... or they may just take your valve stems or smash a window.

At the end of the day, just don't tempt the (semi) honest fella with things like a fancy cooler sitting unlocked on the bow or a big GPS unit left on the console, and remember that the likelihood of a jackass that will steal your stuff passing by is SIGNIFICANTLY greater in the Wal-Mart parking lot than on the river.

I use to do it when I had a boat and never had a problem. Most of the time when you go in by water you don't have to walk a mile in. The best sign was close to the water

Doubt there is much theft on the water. A lot of folks hunt within sight of the boat.

I just take the keys with me and try not to leave anything valuable in it. I rarely see another boat.

Hard for them to get past the converters in the parking lot now. I usually use a canoe

I have a canoe, and I'll hide in some brush before leaving. I'm not too concerned about it being stolen, but I really don't want to get stranded in the swamp during winter. Sounds likes a good way to die.

Same here. Never an issue.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

And my buddy would meet you at the ramp unloading his to come get me. Not too many ramps where i hunt. One way in, one way out.
