This year has been an absolute disappointment for me as far as deer hunting goes. Only managed to shoot a few does. Took a trip to Ohio and shot and lost a giant buck. After that only managed to see small bucks or spikes. Plus dealing with a pregnant wife is not the easiest thing to deal with during deer season, matter of fact start a fire in the kitchen its easier to deal with. However my niece came up this weekend for her birthday and all she wanted to do was hunt with her Uncle Daniel. Well who am I to deny her wish. After a trip to the gun range I show her how to hold the gun and safety and all of that, she was shooting a .243 and I forgot the ear plugs, she shoots a perfect bullseye and immediately begins to cry. The loudness of the gun scared her to death, to the point she didnt even want to go anymore. I am thinking to myself I knew I should have gotten the earplugs. Well I finally convince her just to go sit in the shooting house with me and I would do the shooting. When we get there a deer runs off as we open the gate which kinda got her excited. Then we get to the shooting house and play various games on her Nintendo DS, I got really good at Mario Cart. I even went so far as to draw a picture of a deer on the shooting house wall to show her perfect shot placement. She thought I was crazy when I told her I could draw with a bullet. After sitting there for a while and not seeing anything but hearing some owls go crazy she was getting restless. You try keeping an 8 yo girls attention occupied while in a shooting house and trying to be quiet. Anyway this guy walks out at 30 yards and she wants to shoot. So I help her get the gun out the window and she is shaking so bad and breathing so hard, Im telling her to calm down, take a deep breath and realize that Im shaking just as bad!!! Over a spike I know, I was just so excited for her. She takes the shot and the deer jumps and runs into the pines, pumping blood everywhere. We get out after a bit of hugging and celebration and not far into the pines I see him laying in a creekbed. I tell her to come here and follow the blood, she walks almost on top of him and immediately begins screaming HE'S DEAD!!!! This is the 3rd kid I have been able to be with on their 1st deer. Its an awesome feeling and I know that the little one on the way will be celebrating one day as well. Even though I didnt get that monster buck in Ohio or kill a buck in Alabama, this is what its all about. Whats crazy is she didnt even want to wash the blood off her face, she kept getting me to "freshen" it up when it dried. BTW thanks to TTown for the ear plugs. ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif) ![](http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd40/Dano1890/Isabellesdeer002.jpg) ![](http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd40/Dano1890/Isabellesdeer004.jpg) Gonna do a european mount and have Slingshot dip it in pink camo.

That first picture is absolutely precious.

Nothing better than getting a child excited about the hunt! Well done, indeed!

Thanks man, yea she's a talker, didnt get that from her mama LOL. Im surprised that we even saw a deer. Pretty sure he was deaf and dumb because he looked right in the shooting house and went back to feeding.
