your county commissioners office should give you a name

you don't necessarily need a perk, but a surveyor will need to inspect the hole you dig or they dig and they will fill out the paperwork and create a plan and submit it to the Health Department

I used Rodney Shiflett 205-669-1205 or 205-965-6344

He provides a turn key service. If I remember correctly it was $600 to $700 for him to handle it.

I can't understand why it's so high . All they do is dig a couple holes pour water in them and time it . It's just another racquet.

The surveyor I use does not do perk test. I know what needs to be done and I have someone to dig the holes but I need whoever doing the perk test there while he is digging.

Tuscaloosa Engineering in Northport. $325 in county $350 for neighboring counties. Jefferson County requires backhoe pits, so you would need to schedule one for the day the test is done. 30 years experience. 205-242-0208

Business Insurance (alone is too high)
Tax on Income (probably 25%)
Drafting Software (couple grand a year)
Fees for maintaining Professional License ($250 2 year)
Professional Development Hours (15 per year about $100 plus or minus per hour)
Business License in every county you work (unknown annual)
Soil Classification Book (one time $500 and you are working in dirt)
Auger (one time $1,000)
Time to Drive to and from site and Perform Work (about 3-4 hours)
Time to draft the site and turn in to Health Department (about 2 hours)
Stamping the permit and the liability associated with it.

I have all the ability, knowledge, and license to do Perk Tests on the side and it ain't worth it to me.

Like DrewK11 said, in Jefferson Co it is not a water perk test, the hole has to be 5' deep and big enough the guys can get down in it to look at the soil layers. No water used here.
