ok i have been using the rocky lace up type snake boots for a lot of years. however after wearing my muck boots a lot this year, i was wanting to go to the muck type of snake boots for next year. i was wonder what
type yall liked, the muck boot or dry shod brand. i will say my muck boots(regular type) i have had for 10 years if not longer, just had one sole come off in oklahoma. i realized at that time i had lost the other sole somewhere and dont know when. i just used then without the soles for a few days and had no problems. but wanting to go with the snake boot one. any help

I have the Muck Woody Armor or whatever they call their snake boot and they are great boots but stiff as hell. You will not want to walk all day in them nor drive a vehicle and mash an accelerator for long periods of time. The Danner slip ons are the best, most comfortable I’ve ever owned and I wear them every time I go to the farm.

Love my Irish setter minus the fact my feet get wet with dew…very comfy and light otherwise

Danner Sharptail pull on and Burly 4x4 snake boots. No complaints with either but the Danners wear really well.

Muck snake boots aren’t comfortable like the regular mucks

A pair of Lacrosse Grange and a set of Turtleskin gaiters has been a perfect setup for me. A lightweight waterproof boot I can walk all day in and the option to add lightweight snake protection when I need too.

Ive had numerous pairs of snake boots over the years and the most comfortable has been Danner but they leak like a sieve and one thing i cannot tolerate when I'm in the woods is my feet being wet
I may invest in some Muck or similar boots if i can find any that are comfortable

My lacrosse are great - slip on real easy - comfortable - had them 3-4 years - still going strong

Lacrosse Grange is what I was wearing when I got bit THRU the boot maybe 3" from the top. Pants tucked and boot stopped one fang but not the other.

Dang it Fred - whew - glad I ain’t been struck in the boot - feel like I would b scratching out some dirt r mudd running out of there

That’s why you wear the gaiters.

I have always worn snake boots while turkey hunting and was needing another pair and realized i have never been bit or know anyone who has been bit while turkey hunting. I also started thinking about what are the odds of getting bit and it being in that section of leg that an 8" boot doesn't cover but a full snake boot would. I ended up buying danner vital 8" for last season and absolutely loved it. As light and comfortable as a tennis shoe. I do not have to wade through water anywhere so the lower height was not an issue for that.

So has anyone or anyone they hunt with been bit by a poisonous snake while turkey hunting and it been where a regular 8" boot would not have protected you?

Of course after saying that i was scouting/hunting some new public land and thank goodness i was actually scouting because i was following some scratching and was one step away from a nice rattlesnake, it was cold so he never moved but it got my attention. During the same hunt i was taking a shat beside a tree and heard pure chaos break out and a deer ran right at me and passed within 10 ft followed by a coyote that also passed by at 10 ft. in a full sprint. It was an exciting morning.

Got a buddy who was scratching leaves and got hit by a copperhead in the hand. Only person I can think of who has been bit turkey hunting. I can't even think of a close call for me and i started hunting them in 1975. I probably just jinxed myself. I may buy a full body snakesuit for next year. :-)

yea ive heard plenty of stories of close calls, and know people who have been bit doing other things but not a situation where a snake boot saved them where a 8" boot wouldn't have. And even in your story, snake boots wouldn't have helped but thats definitely gonna make me think twice next time i'm scratching. I have a very dumb strategy of, if you don't see the snake it can't bite you so i really do not even look for them while walking around. I will when setting up but never really just walking around. some people get so scared of snakes they don't even enjoy being in the woods unless its winter.

DMC, I got hit half way up the calf, above the bottom of the calf muscle. An 8" boot would of been very ineffective.

While i do respect your opinion as much as anyone on this site, you’ve also been in the woods for close to 150 years.

But seriously thanks for the response, I am very curious to know how many people have had similar experiences. And if you are the only person you know who has had that happen. That would tell me a lot considering your background and time in the outdoors.

I have a pair of the Russel moccasin hart turkey hunters. They are in for a zipper repair right now, but they seem to be well made boots. I like that I can tie them to my personal fit and then zip and unzip them, however, these are real expensive boots to be having to send back for repair after only wearing them a week.

From all accounts I have read and been told, they are a fine pair of boots that will stand the test of time. Jury still out on my end.
