You can gunproof your kids rather than kidproof your guns. Yup. I and my kids have had guns in our night stands since we were about 5 or 6 years old.

Pretty sure a 16 month old cant get to the top of a closet cabinet. The time will pass from that age to shooting age faster than you think.

A lot easier to open a combo safe in your bedside table than to get up and walk to the closet in my opinion.
