I've been watching these Storks for several days and finally got a few postable pics. I don't know how rare they are but I've never seen one in Alabama during my lifetime. They are hanging out in a shallow farm pond a few miles out of Ashford.
When I lived in Cowarts they used the beaver pond behind the house they used quite a bit.

There was one injured on Pleasant Grove Rd outside of Ashford last week. Probably one of this bunch. There's been about a dozen or so hanging out in this pond. From the replies to this post they're more of them out there than I realized I've just never seen any. A good sized bird and I can see where they could cause damage to the fish population in a pond. I can imagine a roosting sight could get pretty nasty as well.
