Dick's Sporting Goods is furloughing most of its 40,000 employees. I truly feel sorry for anyone who has lost their job, including Dick's employees. But I hope this is the final nail in the corporate coffin. CNN Link

I don't see how they can sustain all the diminishing sales with cutting guns AND the loss due to Covid.

I don't see how they can sustain all the diminishing sales with cutting guns AND the loss due to Covid. The new Dicks Sporting goods in Mobile didn't sell guns at all anyhow. Field n Stream (owned by Dicks) was the gun store right nxt door (you could walk through dicks right into field n stream) And besides these big box stores don't keep the doors open by selling guns
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

It's a slim profit margin on firearms, BUT, it is a draw into their store so they can make the 50% margins on clothing.

Guns are slim on margin, accessories and ammo pull some decent margin, but the mark up on clothing is where they cash in. The margin on clothing was around 2-300% when I worked there over a decade ago.

Academy Sports & Outdoors is furloughing all part-time employees. Bass Pro Shops is cutting manager salaries 7-15%. Lots more businesses teetering on the brink of collapse. America's response to Covid-19 may prove to be more catastrophic than the disease itself.

Dick's Sporting Goods is furloughing most of its 40,000 employees. Ive never shopped at Dicks, but if you've been paying attention, most large companies have been laying off people. This isn't a sign of corporate viability, this is a sign of government driven economy shut down. I don't know if Dicks survives but I know a bunch won't.

I don't see how they can sustain all the diminishing sales with cutting guns AND the loss due to Covid. Their sales and bottom line actually went up after they stopped selling guns and hunting equipment. I know that may seem strange, but I guess they had enough markup on their clothes and other sporting goods equipment they didn't miss it. The Covid stuff is ruining a lot of people. I think they did it because their sales were down, they top hats figured to shut it down, save the money, and open back up after this is over. No one is playing baseball or softball anyway.
