Because the government “borrowed” less of your money for free all year or your getting less of someone else money they you didn’t earn. Plain and simple. Really there is no other reason
It blows my mind how many people don’t understand that. It doesn't add up. 2k less income shouldnt mean 1500 less in return is my point. I knew id have to spell it out. Somebody needs it spelled out.

Trump ended several tax deductions. BUT he also cut taxes. I don't get to claim mileage on my truck any more but overall I pay less in than before. If you want to get more back, just loan the guvment more and then file to get it back. Wiley is the mileage deduction gone away this year? Yes. Fed vs state is two different animals.

Never understood folks who paid in more just to get a refund every year.

Never understood folks who paid in more just to get a refund every year. They aren’t disciplined enough to put it in a savings account.

In my perfect utopia I owe the Feds $1.00 and I owe the state $1.00. True. If you're getting big refunds, you're doing it wrong. Unless you are a low income earner with kids. Then you pay in 1k or so and get back 8k-9k.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

IR-2019-215, December 31, 2019 WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today issued the 2020 optional standard mileage rates (PDF) used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes. Beginning on January 1, 2020, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be: 57.5 cents per mile driven for business use, down one half of a cent from the rate for 2019, 17 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down three cents from the rate for 2019, and 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations. The business mileage rate decreased one half of a cent for business travel driven and three cents for medical and certain moving expense from the rates for 2019.

Looks like they snuck it back in on the last day of the year. My tax man told me last year that it was being ended and it appears that it WAS as of December 30 but got rescinded. Awesome!!!

If you get a refund, you’re getting screwed. Breaking even at the end of the year means you got more than you’ll ever get from a refund. Huh?
