Fed vs state is two different animals.

I got the turbo tax program, entered my daughters college expenses and my tax acually went up. makes no sense why a college credit would increase state taxes by alot more than the $50 it took off federal.

Never understood folks who paid in more just to get a refund every year.

They aren’t disciplined enough to put it in a savings account.

Unless you are a low income earner with kids. Then you pay in 1k or so and get back 8k-9k.

I pay every year.. I’ll probably owe the state $1500 and if I had to guess $1000 or more for the feds🤬

One sure way to get an american mad at you is to let them find out youre getting more out of the govt than they are, boy that makes people mad. Everybody gets away with every penny they can and its all well and good till they find out that fella over there got by with a little more than they did. WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today issued the 2020 optional standard mileage rates (PDF) used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.

Beginning on January 1, 2020, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

57.5 cents per mile driven for business use, down one half of a cent from the rate for 2019,
17 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down three cents from the rate for 2019, and
14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.
The business mileage rate decreased one half of a cent for business travel driven and three cents for medical and certain moving expense from the rates for 2019.

That's GOOD news! Looks like they snuck it back in on the last day of the year. My tax man told me last year that it was being ended and it appears that it WAS as of December 30 but got rescinded. Awesome!!!

First year Iv ever got a refund . I usually have to pay on the farm .

If you get a refund, you’re getting screwed. Breaking even at the end of the year means you got more than you’ll ever get from a refund.

The govt gets a loan from you without paying interest, and you don’t get to use your money until they decide how much and when to give back to you

I agree with y'all that getting a big refund isn't good, but you wouldn't be getting much interest on that $1,000 during the year. 1% equates to $10, and after taxes more like $7. Stroking a check at the end of the year isn't fun either.

Stop bitching if you’re getting money back. Come write the check I have to give them every year and then you will be glad you are a W2 employee.
