I've spent a lifetime worth of studying all the "how to's." It all boils down to 2 basics things. #1: You have to disciple yourself to let deer walk and #2: You have to hunt in a place where the deer can get some age on them. Both are easier said than done.

The biggest key to killing big bucks, is hunting a property that has big bucks. If they aren’t there, you can’t kill them. Now there are all kinds of things you can do right or wrong when it comes to trying to get them dead toe rice

Secret ,,,, only secret I can think of would be to know just where these bucks disappear to when the bullets get to flying.... if you know that ,,,, keep it to yourself ,,,,, other than that ,,,With a passion, practice your scent control , use your calls and deer scents at the right time and in the right place,,, Put as much time as you can in the woods ,,, Sooner maybe even later your going to see that deer you consider a big buck.

First big bucks have to be there. Second it’s all about luck. You can scout until your blue in the face, have him patterned perfect do everything that a expert hunter knows they are to do. He’s coming in and wham bad luck changes everything. Or it can be the persons first hunt with borrowed equipment, just pumped gas, making all kinds of racket and wham that lucky charms hits just right and ol big boy is on the ground. Hence the old saying “I’d rather be lucky any day than good”.

Hunt where the big bucks are, not where you think they should be. Biggest bucks I have killed have both come from most recent information, not from traditional places that Uncle Joe killed one in the 90's. One was a trail cam picture and I hunted 3 days later on a cold front before a rain and killed him. The other was finding the fresh droppings one the biggest whiteoaks. Also letting them walk when younger or just not monsters. Can't kill a 170 inch if you kill him at 140

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore I believe in work, hard work. -George Petrie (1945)

I've killed several big bucks for my area. Just never the biggest. It's always the guy you described. Now matter how much time, money, or effort you put into it in, it's always the blind luck that kills the biggest.

I have a goal and it's not to necessarily to kill the biggest, just to kill one the size I set as my goal. It happens to the blind luck guys, I'm past due for some luck.

Y'all are overcomplicating the hell out of this. To kill big bucks all you have to do is get between where he is now and where he is going to be in a little while. That's all. grin

Yes, we're saying the same thing. In order for big bucks to be there, they first have survive to grow to that size. And they are often right under your nose. Luck is part of the game but hard work and persistence will eventually pay off.
