Hey guys I just lost my rights to hunt the private land ive been hunting for a few years now due to the land being logged starting here this week and the farm being sold. I am from Huntsville and I dont want to miss any chances to hunt so I am going to take on Wheeler NWR this weekend. I will be bowhunting, and I need to know some advice about hunting here. I know many people dislike wheeler for many reasons, but there is 18,000 acres of huntable land, and I know just from my experiences hunting that there are more deer than you think on that much land, and working hard enough to find secluded areas where there are not many hunters can lead to success at a place like this. The habitat is great for deer, and I am really looking forward to exploring this area. I am not very famililar with any parts but the Mooresville area off of I565. Any advice at all on locations and tactics for hunting Wheeler would be greatly appreciated. I know about the skeeters, queers, and crowdedness of this place already as i have read. I just need good starting locations and areas to work with for the rest of this season. Id be happy stickin' a nice doe or 2 with my recurve, im not out to find out anyones favorite spots or anything like that, just want to get out in the woods and enjoy the oppurtunities God has given me to experience nature and everything it brings. Thanks guys! and God Bless

It's a National Wildlife Refuge, not a state WMA ... make sure to check your refuge regulations.
Others may be able to point you in some directions to get started. Best of luck out there and wear a safety harness.
