Why or why not? I will reveal the reason for the question later in the thread

1. The deer is at least 6 years old per teeth, per my hunting buddy who has some experience with them. I will know for sure later from taxidermist.
2. The deer weighed a minimum of 180 lbs, scale crapped out, but I have handled a number of deer the last couple of years that were scale weighed 180-200 lb deer and he is there.
3.Taxidermist said the length between eye and nose tip was the longest he has ever seen in Alabama and would require the largest commercial form if mounted.
4. he is a lop sided 7

Be honest now! I know "he would have been A GOOD ONE NEXT YEAR.", but would he really have been at that age.

People need to quit worrying about justifying killing a deer or any animal for the he would a good one next year crowd well in your eyes he was a goodin this year so enjoy the moment and the meat

This. If you shoot mature deer and not "horns" the rest will work itself out. If you don't want to hunt that way that's ok too you aren't hunting with me so no harm there.... at least he isn't a 2 yo 4 pointer like most folks on here would ground check.

Shooting him was a good call. At that age he won't getting better antlers next year. He is about as good as he was going to get. Good mature deer. Be happy. Sounds like someone at the club may not be happy about it now that I look back at the way you wrote your initial statement.

Too late to ask now but a trophy/shooter is in the eye of the hunter . If you liked him, kill him, if you think you have a chance at killing him next year and he will be a better deer , let him walk. I'd shot him .

I would shoot him and immediately start threads on Aldeer and Alabama hunters by BOA that if anyone had a problem with it to meet me in Lowndes county and give them that Rusty guys address from that crazy thread I read yesterday, hahahahahaha
