It was a perfect morning in the stand this morning. I got in the woods before daylight slipping in off the top of the ridge about half way down the hill in a funnel where I could watch a heavily used trail that split right in front of me with each leg heading to a different field. I hadn't been there very long before five does came by. I decided to give them a pass since it was so early. About thrity minutes later a small basket rack 6 pointer came by munching on acorns. He too got a pass and headed on down the trail. About an hour later I heard a deer making his way down the trail. I was looking his direction when I got a glimpse of his rack. He was HUGE. Bigger than anything I had taken before. Even with a gun. I waited for him to pass behind some brush and then I stood and came to full draw in one motion. He came down the trail to where it forked, not knowing I was only 20 yards away. He pulled his head up for a split second then dropped it to grab an acorn as I settled my pin right behind his shoulder. My index finger reached for the trigger on my release. I don't even really remember touching it but, as if in slow motion, my arrow launched speeding towards the buck. Right before it made contact...I woke up. Dang!!
If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.-Mark Twain
