Hey guys, I just moved to Spanish Fort and I am looking to bow hunt the Upper Delta WMA. I have a small jon boat for access.

Do any of y'all have any recent experience hunting this? I have heard the area is mostly overrun with hogs and the deer are very limited.

Any input is appreciated.

Can kill the deer if you put in your homework. Can have a lot of fun shooting hogs too.

Had some family with some land around Stockton. Lots of game in the area and I was actually suprised at the size of some of the deer they killed in that area. Not much on body weight but pretty good racks.

We hunted the Clearwater tract for 30 years before it became FW. There are plenty of deer and hogs.
Having a boat will increase your chances of being away from people, but you need to remember the following:
1. Boat rides in the winter are COLD
2. Tugs and especially Yankee Yacht owners can put some big azz waves in a boat.
3. Rising water and strong current can be dangerous

Lot of beautiful timber to see. Find a buddy and make sure you get a cart.

I grew up in there, The gators and cottonmouths in there can be astounding. I think a few folk have never come back from a hunt.

This is a good dude. I went down last year to hog hunt and he gave me tips and locations to hunt.

Joe, did y’all have the outdoor event the other weekend? If so I know several members. I was there briefly.

Welcome to the Fort. Home of the Toros and great seafood. You really need to put your homework in the hunt the delta. The water plays havoc with the deer movement, but they’re there if you know who to find them. Hogs everywhere. I lived here for 20 years. You’ll love it. Let me know if I can help with local stuff.

Something I always worried about is theft. Do hunters ever have their boats stolen?

Been 10 years since I hunted there regularly. We really never kept anything of value in the boat. Most criminals don't want to work that hard to steal a battery. We had a camp on the Alabama a few miles north of the Mobile River.

Hunting by boat is less prevalent now and most people that hunt the UD access by truck.

Hasn’t happened yet sir. Sometimes when I climb up in my stand I can see my boat. Don’t like to drag em too far
