above is a new, made in USA, iron skillet company that's among a handful of start-ups making new cast iron these days ... based on the price & design (i assume), some are calling this new iron "artisan" cast iron ...

curious to hear your thoughts on this stuff ... worth the price? FWIW the most expensive piece of vintage cast iron i've found was well under $50 & was a made in USA WagnerWare chicken fryer (posted a pic of it in my nuggets post) ... most all of the other vintage iron i've found is in the $9-20 range & is performing fantastic for me after cleaning & re-seasoning ...

I think I posted a picture of some of their stuff in one of the other threads to illustrate the difference between a good cast iron skillet and something like a Lodge. The difference principally being a smooth machined interior finish vs a sand cast finish straight out of the mold. That is probably what makes the difference in price between those two.

You think $100 for a cast iron skillet is pricey until you think about it not only being something that you will use the rest of your live, but also something your grandchildren could use the rest of their lives too and so on...

below is a video of Kent Rollins & his wife un-boxing one; I thought her comments about it being a good "investment" for someone that has no cast iron whatsoever were spot-on ... i happen to enjoy it, but it has taken quite a bit of effort to restore my vintage iron ...

I follow him on Youtube and bought his book. Good stuff. He has a lot of good recipes if you like southwest/cowboy cooking.
