Obama or who ever is the next president is gonna have to shut the border down, the situation down there is getting too bad. Its gotten to the point where there really is not an option, it has to be shut down with military force.

The cartels don't care.
They will kill anyone, anywhere, who tries to stop them. Police. Politicians. Whomever.
A fence won't stop them. Cocaine and weed are in too much demand here in the U.S.
If the U.S. sends in troops, the cartels won't care and will fight to the death. But not before killing civilians in Mexico and the U.S. just for the heck of it. The casino fire and murders two weeks ago in Mexico was proof.
Mexico's authorities have been on the take for years and anyone who tries to clean it up gets killed. Their families get killed. Their friends and associates get killed. Because there's no oil in Mexico and the immigrants perform jobs and services here in the U.S., our government is loathe to do anything substantial on the border.
Would a full-out military assault probably do anything? Maybe, to any of the cartel caught in the U.S. But the cartels are widespread, from the Gulf to Pacific, are ruthless, but also are patient. They'd sit back and wait on the U.S. whiners to start complaining about wasting money on the border and pulling out the troops, and then start again.
The U.S. isn't going to build a fence on the entire border. They're just not. Ever. Nor can they control all the crossings.
This little incursion over the Rio won't have any ramifications, either. "Y'all don't do that again! Si, senor! OK, good. Let's all have a cerveza!"
Pretty damn sad when gunmen invade the United States and get away with it, though.

The only way to fix this is 2 fold.
-Tougher penalties on those selling and using drugs
-Turning the border into a military zone
Decrease the demand make it harder and more dangerous to smuggle.
