Found this in Tuskegee National forest the other day. Looks like a nature recording research project. Looking to see details about the trap and what was being recorded.

Sony Microphone in PVC Pipe

Some sort of trap?(has a trapdoor and had a green corrugated roof)

Looking up into the PVC pipe with sony microphone

Closeup of the inside of the pipe with a fuzzy picture showing the Sony microphone

Sony microphone in PVC pipe side view

Hog trap (minus the gate and release mechanism)

First pic is a corn feeder. The second looks like a pigeon coop.

First is not a corn feeder, most likely bird seeds. Look at how small the holes in screen are. Maybe to get homing pigeons to stick around till the handler returns. Enclosure maybe a hog trap.

I also found this if anyone has a clue what it is... Looks like the base of something.

There are threaded rods spaced evenly down the slab and on the head stone looking piece

Headstone looking piece with threaded rod and some sort of shutoff valve hung on an exposed threaded rod

ZEB is that an old homesite? First slab could have had a propane tank bolted to it.

Looks like some kind of old homesite or dump site. First stuff looks like a research project of some kind, with the pipe as protection for the microphone.

First group of pictures are from an area in the national forest called the duck pond near Tuskegee. I was curious as to what they would have trapped and why they had microphones and not gamecams. Hog trap was interesting in that it had a notice attached from the department of agriculture.

Second group is near Becks turf and the rest area near exit 42. This one is in the middle of s hardwood bottom near chotofaula creek. These are the only things around other than the trees so they were very out of place. The large one is about 8ft x 3ft with threaded rods spaced evenly across the whole width. The headstone is about 3ft wide. I looked around this site to see if there were any others but couldn't find any unless they are underground.

Definetly a cald trap, be on the lookout for cameras placed high up in the trees.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Certain departments from Auburn have used the TNF for research and field training. However, it would not be standard practice to leave anything like that in the woods afterwards.

Now I'm wondering if that mike might has had a transmitter on it to alert someone when hogs got into the trap. Were they close?
Was there a date on the tag?

In 2007 They was supposedly a bigfoot sighting in that swamp? According to BFRO map. Could have been something setup to try and capture there sounds? Just a guess?

On the "turkey hunter podcast," they had a guy on there that studied turkey gobbles using microphones set to cover different sections of public land. The microphone recorded every sound but would separate, and count, the frequency associated with a turkey gobble. May be one of those?

There were two of these microphone PVC pipe things(one still has the Sony mic but no recorder or transmitter/the other is just the pipe now no mic or transmitter) spaced about 50 yards apart in this swampy bottom. They were kind of close (about 300-400 yards) away from the hog trap. No date on the hog trap tag/notice.

Can anyone point me to details on this "cald trap"? I've googled and came up empty. I was thinking some sort of small animal trap maybe beaver, muskrat, etc... or maybe bird?

Also here is a link to the full photo gallery -> Photo gallery

USDA wildlife services was running the hog trap. No clue on the mic/coop?

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Really not to much to explain, it's just a trap that hopefully catches a cald.
