Now... I'm not against someone keeping a prepardness kit in their vehicle. I have enough beer, honey buns, ammo, tools, animal traps, probably some deer corn, shovel, winch, etc. to make it several days so I'm not crying foul on the guy that thinks he needs to little something in his vehicle.
If the stock market crashes... which would be the most likely scenario in my book. Or maybe you could say a nuke attack on New York or something like that maybe EMP.
Do you think that people in Alabama would go full Mad Max before you had time to get back to yer house?
Worst that is likely to happen to us is a natural disaster and I don't think people are going to turn into packs of marauding murders and start bartering for food and gas before you could walk your arse back home and figure out next steps.

So I got a new backpack for Christmas that I intend to use mainly as an emergency pack/Bug Out Bag. I'm putting together a list of necessities and have come up with the list below....thoughts? Something to add/remove? -Flashlight w/ extra batteries -Headlamp w/ extra batteries -Fleece pullover -Rain poncho -Fleece toboggan -Fixed blade hunting knife -Leatherman -A magnesium fire starter -Glock w/ 2 loaded mags (will likely be strapped to the outside in a molle holster to save room -50rd box of FMJ -A large bottle of water along with some type of water purifying tablets (or something similar) -A few Clif Bars -A small first aid kit By the way that Red Rock backpack is the exact same pack I carry everyday. It has my laptop, journal, glasses, multitool, chargers, umbrella, lunch, rain jacket, etc... It has held up well for over a year. Great pack. super durable.

I don't think people are going to turn into packs of marauding murders and start bartering for food and gas before you could walk your arse back home and figure out next steps. Seriously? Have you seen how people act on frigging Black Friday in Walmart?...and that's just to save 50 bucks on a TV! STHF while I'm at work, and at a minimum New Orleans and Mobile are between me and home...that's a lotta Walmarts!

Worst that is likely to happen to us is a natural disaster and I don't think people are going to turn into packs of marauding murders and start bartering for food and gas before you could walk your arse back home and figure out next steps. They will turn on you so fast it'll make your head spin. I've been in a couple places post-disaster where it gives you a small preview of what a real SHTF situation would be like. When I was in Houston after Allison the next day was surreal. Same with tuscaloosa after april 27. Now extrapolate those events out over much of the country or the entire country and imagine what mass chaos there would be. It's hard to imagine the scenarios, but no one could have predicted WW1 on June 27, 1914. Just to add some general substance to the thread, the best "bug out bag" thing you can add to your toolbox is knowing how to grow food. And knowing the logistics of what is takes to feed people, especially outside of a structured food system.

Wound-stop powder takes up a lot less space than a tampon. Use the extra space to carry smoke bomb(s) to get a chopper in fast. Or a gps and a cell phone. I keep Wound Seal at the house and in my vehicles. Every bit as effective and half the cost of Quick Clot.

Give folks 72 hours of not being able to fill up their gas tank in this country & they'll be shooting each other dead in the endless lines at the gas pumps.

lent from the dryer is a damn good fire starter and you can cram a whole lot in a Ziploc bag. Steel wool & 9 volt battery works too.

Unless you really live out in the sticks, all you need is a good knowledge of your area, a good all-weather handgun (and extra mags) and maybe a flashlight. You can take everything you need from the folks that don't have that stuff. That's pretty messed up. I don't think you make it far at my house. So the guy with a candle and dryer lint gets a pass?

The purpose of the bags for our family is to give everyone the best opportunity to get home where we are better prepared to ride out a situation. Even after that if things got really bad my first inclination would be to partner up with other like minded people and try to form some kind of cooperative for mutual defense and support rather than going rogue and killing people and taking what I feel I need. Regardless of how bad it gets, I plan on keeping my faith in God and abiding by his teachings. Civilization will need to be reconstructed out of the ashes, and that can only happen with people working together to form communities. That all may sound idealistic, but it's the only way.

Good post! Fortunately, I think that most people, or at least most people in our part of the country, think the same way. And the "if I have a gun I can take whatever else I need crowd" don't always realize it, but they've already been taken into consideration.
