Deer don't care if it is windy outside. They know the wind knocks acorns off the trees. That's where I'd place my bet.

Deer don't care if it is windy outside. They know the wind knocks acorns off the trees. That's where I'd place my bet. I disagree about deer not caring about wind. At 20 mph, if they can't find a wind sheltered spot, they'll just hunker down and get those acorns when the wind calms down. 20 mph wind messes with their eyes, ears and noses. No bueno

I see plenty of deer in a strong wind, but they tend to be in the big woods where the wind doesn't move much of anything at ground level. Think like a deer. They don't like much ground level movement. Another good spot on windy days from my experiences is a large, open sedge field. This is especially true on a bitterly cold, sunny morning. They like the sunshine on those mornings.
It's too dry right now, but generally windy days are great for a walk through the woods into the wind.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

What I've found that works best for me is to hunt when I can and not worry about the other stuff.

What I've found that works best for me is to hunt when I can and not worry about the other stuff. Sage advice my friend. I'll add that I don't worry about inches either, I just try to really soak up the experience and appreciate God's gifts. Hunting is part of life for me, why ruin it with worrying about things you cant control.

I think pressure gradient has more to with the lull in movement more than the high wind.

For those of you that decide to sit out windy days go right ahead. You're missing out on the best hunting days. I see far more deer on strong windy days following a low pressure system than any other time. The stronger the wind the better. I have been taking observation data for years and it is the ONE variable I will take off from work to hunt. Strong NNW wind pushing a front. Killed many a big deer on those days. So true. The best hunting is always right after a front. This is also when it tends to be windiest. I just hate it when it is real cold and windy. I can deal with low temperatures but the wind along with it is what gets me. After a front also tends to have the NW wind so I have stands in my favorite spots just for this wind.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I see more deer in the rain, than on a really windy day. Biggest deer killed year before last at camp, was during rain and I'm talking thunderstorms in the vicinity. I didn't even come up that weekend because of the threat for severe weather...
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
