Ok, thanks guys. Hope we get to bag 1 or 2. I have always heard you can't eat a boar, that the meat will taste... off. Even with farm raise pigs my family and others have always said only eat a boar that was cut at a young age. Any truth to that. I don't care to kill a boar if I can't eat it.

If he's real young, he'll be fine to eat...if he's a little older, but doesn't have cods bigger than your head, he'll make sausage.

My tip is shoot em in the head just under/behind the ear. Any reason for this? I was thinking headshots already as I'm using a .223. Since I lost a 350# boar to a broadside body shot most of mine Ive shot with 223 or 243 and in the head. All the shots have been under 100 yards and I have always waited for a broadside head shot. I havent had one go more than 3-5 ft from where it was standing when I shot it. I do it because most of my shots are when they are in a field and I dont care to track em and drag em out by myself. Rather drop em right there easy to get too. Ive only seen one get up and that was because he moved forward just as soon as I pulled the trigger and I unknowingly at that time hit him behind the skull above the spine. He layed there and did the one leg up in the air dance for about 5 minutes. Jumped up ran 20 feet and piled up from blood loss. The impact must have caused trauma on the spine and temporarily paralyzed him till he was just about bled out. I make sure and give them at least 10 minutes now before I go walk up on one just to be sure.
