My lease property in SW AL has a flowing well. It smells like sulfur and I bet it doesn't taste good. But anyway, I would like to get it tested.

First, I want to know if it's safe to drink?
Second, I want to know if it's hard or soft water? I pull my 3 pt hitch spray rig under the pipe and I fill up my tank. If it's hard water, I will need to add some ammonium sulfate.

I just want to get the water tested. Where to send?

Thanks!

Check out Waypoint labs website. Used to A&L labs. I think they can help you test it.

You can take it to the State Health Department in montgomery off the Taylor Rd. Exit. The building is between I 85 and the AUM campus. This is where they do the lab work.

They have a website if you google "State Department of Public health".

Sulfur water tastes good. Drank it straight outta the ground at Blount springs a couple of times.

Your local health dept will send it to Montgomery and give you the correct sample bottle to put it in.

The thing about having water tested is that there is no standard all inclusive single test to show that drinking water is 100% safe.

The bottles from the health department will be for fecal coliform samples. A presence of fecal could indicate that the water is under the influence of surface water, or somebodies septic tank. This test ranges from free to pretty cheap. Coloform contaminated water would pose the potential to make you sick.

Thie stuff that will kill you or give you three testicles are chemicals that may be harmful in the parts per billion range or lower and include stuff like benzene, lead, and a ton of others. These wouldn't be tested for in a fecal sample. Testing for these things Is expensive and requires more complex sampling.

State Public Health Lab only runs bacterial test. Private lab for other tests.

A lot of water departments have their own testing facilities. I'd check with them first, get a couple test kits and they can test it or tell you where to send it. You have to be careful when pulling a sample to not touch the lid, inside of bottle, or rim of the bottle or you can and will contaminate the sample.

Local pool places sometimes have advanced water testing tools, just an idea
