Asking for a receipt is a deterrent to shoplifters. In that case, they could save money by eliminating the video cameras and the people they pay to watch them all day. Apparently they're not working if they are relying on greeters to deter shoplifting.

I normally just cough up my receipt but a couple years ago on a whim I just had the urge to do something I had always wanted to do.When the old dude at the door asked "have you got your receipt?" I took off running with the few bags I had in my hand.Looking back over my shoulder I see two guys coming out of the door looking in my direction. As I got to my truck they were catching up so I turned around and had the receipt in hand by the time they got to me.I held it out for the guy before he could say a word and said to him"just wanted to see what ya'll would do."The one guy smirked and the other one who was genuinely miffed said"there is nothing funny about what you just did."Then they both walked away looking back over their shoulder at me as they disappeared back into the store. If looks could kill I wouldn't be typing this right now.

and the other one who was genuinely miffed said"there is nothing funny about what you just did." Sounds like he could run pretty well with a rod stuck up his butt.

Asking for a receipt is a deterrent to shoplifters. In that case, they could save money by eliminating the video cameras and the people they pay to watch them all day. Apparently they're not working if they are relying on greeters to deter shoplifting. The visibility of the greeter is the point. Although I have never seen a shoplifter arrested, I have been asked for a receipt many times. Simply putting the shoplifters on notice.

Shoplifters would ignore the greeters, too. It's silly to think a shoplifter is going to be deterred by a 77-year-old woman asking to see a receipt.

Bunch of dam curmudgeons, just smile and show a receipt.
Actually, I despise going in Walmart. They must be doing something right though, their stock has risen 20% this year.
I expect they are looking into competing with Amazon thru the Jet.com deal.

Their store, their rules. Just show them the damn receipt or stop shopping there if it bothers you so much.

Yep, I tremble when I see Grampy in his vest standing by the hand sanitizer stand.

So if Grampy in a red vest is a deterrent, why not put a true security guy there?
Plus, why Walmart and not Home Depot, Target and other stores of similar ilk?

I can totally understand the sentiment, but that might result in a possible shoplifting call to the local PD. horsechitt, they don't even try to stop blatant thieves at WalMart.....

I always show the receipt but this sounds like fun. If I don't like it I'll shop elsewhere. Come to think of it if it don't fit in a bag I normally get it from somewhere else anyway. Just doing her job. Even if she singles you out who cares....... Any time you do not have an item in the bag they ask for a receipt. I never pack my stuff in bags and I get asked for a receipt every time I am walking out.
