I hate it worse when I go in Dollar General and have to show my ID to buy a pack of cigarettes. One dude won't even take my word what my birthday is he wants to see my drivers license. Dude I am over 50 surely I look 21 or 18 or whatever it has to be now. Next time I am going to buy a bunch of stuff and tell him I don't have a license with me. If he don't just sell them to me I am going to leave it all at the register.

I used to work for WM years and years ago. Four different ones. It's the 2% of people that are thieves that make it hard for the rest of us.
We caught people putting sunglasses underneath their babies in a stroller, fill trash cans with printer cartridges, cut the UPC code off a pack of gum and tape it over the UPC on a $70 bed-in-a-bag, a chip vendor stealing DVDs in his chip boxes as he exited receiving, shoving cartons of cigarettes down their pants, placing two computers in a buggy and running out the garden center door......and this was just in one store.
And don't let me get started on the crap they would try to bring back to the service desk. That is a whole other thread.

Ya'll remind me of Rodney Carrington when he talks about how Walmrks a great place to whoop your kids. He said it's like theres a bell that goes off and your supposed to whoop em. "DING, whip your kids!" And the best part, "the little Wal-Mart greeter man that asks, "you want me to whoop 'em?" Great bit by Mr. Carrington

It's funny, there are threads on here about how much we detest the horrible attitudes we are subject to at fast food chains and how we just want to be treated with kindness and respect as we go through our daily lives. That person asking for your receipt is just doing there job and most of them just want to be treated the same way. Agreed. How many threads are there about people living off the govt with no job? Be thankful that person is standing there trying to earn a paycheck and not sucking your tax dollars.

There is no point in what they are asking for, though. You literally just walked from the cash register to the door -- with no products to steal in that space -- and they want to see your receipt. They don't ask for the receipt AND look in the bag to cross off anything. They're not asking to see in the bag. Just the receipt. They look and hand it back. FOR NO REASON. It's bullshit and pointless, and if I'm more of an asshole for saying no then so be it. I don't care. I don't have a miserable life until some corporate assweed tries to do something like this to folks who just spent money in their store. Publix doesn't do this. Lowe's and Home Depot don't do this. Walmart is the only one that does, and it does nothing but lend to their perception as asshats.

Walmart is the only one that does, and it does nothing but lend to their perception as asshats. You don't understand the concept though Clem. It is much easier to ask and check a receipt of someone you know paid for their stuff than to actually catch someone that didn't. I can tell you from my time as the LE rep to our local WalMart (I met with executives, negotiated the contract and made the schedules for their LE security), shoplifting was a minor concern. Their biggest concerns, in no particular order were, 1). Armed Robbery of the money cart when they collect from the registers( a lot of $$$s), 2). Liability 3). Inside theft, which is a bigger problem than shoplifting. In fact, when I got my Masters in 1992 or so, 97% of retails inventory loss came from employee theft. The shoplifting is accounted for by just marking prices up a percentage. In case you are wondering, the department with the biggest shoplifting loss is cosmetics. The biggest employee theft department was, no surprise, electronics. A lot of computers go out in trash bags. I actually caught an employee doing this one time. I arrested him and the assistant manager fired him. Corporate then fired the manager because he didn't let them know before he fired the guy. You won't believe the crazy policies they have to avoid lawsuits from employees.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It's shocking to me that they are doing this. Spend more money on people to watch your security cameras rather than pissing every person off that has paid good money for your product, dealt with your shucks customer service, waited in your horribly long lines, and then they have the gall to make you wait 30 seconds while they check a receipt that you have already paid for.
Keep walking by them and corporate will get the message. I feel bad for the folks given the marching orders, but I am not going to abide because an hourly employee at walmart might get offended. That's what I want, for the employee to get pissed, so they will go tell their manager, their manager will tell their manager, and then suddenly the policy changes. shucks rolls down hill and someone has to be the one to kick it.

This is a major pet peeve of mine, especially when I am 2 feet from them when I go through a register.
I have tried a lot of approaches at WM.
Sometimes I hand them the receipt and keep walking. Sometimes I ignore them. Sometimes I tell them no. Sometimes I say sure, and hold it up as I walk out.
One time, I told the guy, "No, that's ok, I'm not staying for the drawing". Talk about getting a confused look. I heard him mumbling "What drawing???" as I walked out.
My son, who is 21, learned by watching me, I guess. It is not something I am proud of. A lady asked him for a receipt and he said, "no, I'm in a hurry" and she started to make a deal of it, so he just handed it to her and kept walking. She wadded it up and threw it at him. He suddenly found some time and had a talk with the manager who was incredulous. She admitted what she had done and apologized.
The manager apologized profusely and told my son that they didn't have a right to stop him and ask for a receipt.
The only time I will stop is if the security alarm goes off and I don't stop every time even for that.
I do not steal. I will drive back to an establishment if I realize I've been given too much change. I resent the insinuation that I am guilty and have to prove my innocence.
WM is NOT like Sam's or Costco. Of course I stop at those type places because that is part of the agreement. It is not open to the public but only to members. Different story with them.

Makes no sense. "I'm not staying for the drawing!" is priceless. Love that. My son asked him why they were asking for them when they weren't supposed to and the manager said they weren't supposed to and to let him know if it happened again. There is no way those greeters are asking on their own initiative. It obviously came from management and it happens all the time at that WM, which is in an upscale neighborhood. I've embarrassed my wife a few times. She will always stop but if I'm pushing the cart, I keep on walking. It is pointless because they are not checking anything. One of the ladies recognizes me, after I told her "no" a couple times, and now and will NEVER ask me. I think I could walk down the isle with a tv on my shoulder and walk straight out the door, and she would never say a thing.

I have a great disdain for shopping at Walmart and I try to do most of my grocery shopping at publix. We agree that Walmart is terrible. I think it's stupid that the Walmart greeters randomly asks to see receipts. However, I am not going to be a dick to a minimum wage worker because they are doing what they are told. Y'all sure are an angry bunch today, must be mid summer in alabama And Clem, you are a butthole
