I've been hunting in Barbour county for the last three years. In 2014 and 2015, the Bucks didn't seem to start walking in the daylight till the end of January and February. This past season (2016), this didn't happen. Weather may have been a factor. I talked to our local Game Warden, who is also an avid hunter. He told us that the rut occurred in early to mid Jauary in our area. I was wondering what some of the more experienced hunters perceive to be the most likely time frame for this years rut? I need to put in for my vacation weeks, and hope to get it right this year. Thanks Walt

Depends on where you're hunting in Barbour Co.....that area has several rut dates within the same county.

Ok, i'll bite. Talk to your local biologist, they'll know when it usually happens, from conceptions studies that have been done. It happens whether you see it or not. Warm daytime temps keeps daytime activity down, but the rut still happens. Eyewitness reports are the worst evidence of the rut, because some people cant see a deer at the zoo, much less in the woods.
