What can lenders see on your credit report when they pull for loans? (mortgage, auto, personal, etc.)

Is it different depending on the type of loan and the amount of money involved?

The reason I'm asking is because I defaulted on some student loans years ago, and they are not on my credit report any longer. I still pay the loan every month through the company they have collecting the debt on their behalf (collection company)

Is there any way legally or other wise that this information can be obtained and obstruct lending from taking place?

You sure it isn't on any of the 3 bureaus? Don't assume it has fallen off all 3 no matter how long it's been.

ive heard , and may be wrong, even if its a collection company , and you are paying , it is still active and shows on your credit. if its over 7 years with no activity, even if it is turned over for collections, it is past the ability to collect and should not show.

100% sure that it isn't on any of three bureaus.

I'm 100% sure it is not showing on Equifax, Transunion, or Experian. Since I defaulted I believe that once is was considered "in default" once that was reported to the credit bureaus, it ran it's course and after 7 years it came off. I still make a payment every month, but there is NOTHING on my credit reflecting it.

Lenders check a website for defaults on government insured loans, taxes, etc. This website does not purge like the credit repositories do. Go ahead and get your paperwork together to show you have a payment agreement and have been paying as agreed. You'll be asked to write an explanation also.

I do not think these were government loans, I believe it was some sort of "signature loan" if memory serves correctly. The reason I say that is that I had what I believe was a "government" loan as well, it was listed seperately on my credit report, and one year they took my tax refund money to apply to it. That got my attention and I paid it off in full. It reflects positively on my credit reports.

If they aren't government insured you are probably good to go.

They will go after student loans like the IRS. All while they letting folks into this country and handing them EBT cards. One reason I quit some things years ago. .02

Well it took a bit to find it, but I got logged on to National Student Loan Data System"The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education's (ED's) central database for student aid. NSLDS receives data from schools, guaranty agencies, the Direct Loan program, and other Department of ED programs. NSLDS Student Access provides a centralized, integrated view of Title IV loans and grants so that recipients of Title IV Aid can access and inquire about their Title IV loans and/or grant data." The only loan that showed up was the one that I have paid off in full. I am assuming if the other loans were federally insured they would have been on here. I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row, trying to be prepared well in advance. I know that if you apply for a home loan w/ government ties i.e. HUD, FHA, USDA they run a "CAIVRS" (Credit Alert Verification Reporting System) check prior to pre approval. Apparently if you owe Uncle Sam any money, it shows up on that check. I figure I'm not the only one going through this sort of thing, hopefully this is informative information that may help someone else along with myself.

The LO can check your CAIVRS with your name and SSN before you even pick out a home so you'll know if you need anymore documentation. You are definitely not the only one going through this and your post was very informative. You would be surprised at the number of borrowers who do not any research before committing to a contract and/or a mortgage loan. Good luck with your house hunt. I'm sure you'll find just the one you are supposed to have.

If it doesn't show on the three bureaus then no one will check. Never known of a lender to check any website to see if your student loans are paid. If not on the bureaus your good
