If you spend any time on this site you will quickly realize that bearded gobbling turkeys is what is most desired to be killed by AL turkey hunters. There has also been several weird-o out of staters who have come on here and essentially advocated for QDM principles for turkeys. For some reason they like to do that. Go back to your state and pick fights with you own turkey hunters. Take your .22 and go bust some hens while you're at it.

A full fan, a beard, and a gobble is all I need to shoot. After the shot I am always just anxious as I can be to flip him over and check out those spurs. I have not killed one with more than 1-1/4" spurs yet, but I want it so bad I can taste it.

A 2yo is just as much fun to hear gobble, watch strut, hear drum, and shoot as a 4yo.

There are several guys I know that TRY to kill older birds and will pass up two year olds or allow someone else to shoot if possible. That works for me! But nothing like a season with an older bird limit. If you are really want to be serious about it, a good quality shotgun scope is the ticket. Plus, you can see the gnats swarming around his head; up close and personal.

I'm a non-discriminating turkey hunter. If he's old enough to have a full roll gobble, I'll kill him. On the rare occasion I have a jake come in with a full gobble, I'll give him a pass.

Wow some people can not detect sarcasm even when it was pointed out in the original post. Btw, I wish they would outlaw 22s and hens are no fun to shoot

Maybe you should start a Virginia Yankee turkey forum and they would understand your sense of humor, we probably aren't intelligent enough down here to get your sarcasm. Heck, I just learned how to read. wink

Im in the "try not to shoot a 2yo crowd". I own my own land. I sorta know the birds and wont bother messin around with a younger one if I can. Yes, it's hard to know most of the time, but you can tell the difference oftentimes. Especially with multiple birds. However, good gobbling, good show, good hunt, you shoot the full fan.

Similar to my buck hunting, I'll pass on youngsters 99 percent of the time. But on the day that 1% is ready to die then a young buck or jake may get a dose of lead poisoning.

While I could be convinced differently, I am skeptical that spurs are genetically linked, as in bird with bigger spurs passing on to his offspring bigger spurs. I also seriously doubt spurless gobblers have any genetic component. Would love to see some publication backing this up.

I kill gobbling birds with full fans. Some are 2 I guess and others are older. I collect Spurs.

Just like deer hunting for me. Depends on where I am. If hunting our land or leases I only shoot longbeards. If I am hunting public land it better not have a ruffled feather on its neck.
Private land birds are alot more predictable because they love the plots and roads. You don't necessarily have that on public land.
