I got checked this afternoon about 4:00. As the game warden approached I acknowledged him about 15 yards out. He indicated for me to be quiet by putting his finger to his mouth. The conversation that followed was whisper quiet. He climbed the ladder of the stand I was in to get closer. He checked my license, my hunter's orange and my harvest record. I had a harvest record but it was an old one. He was aggravated that I didn’t have one for the 2015 – 2016 season and said they were putting more emphasis on the harvest record this year. I thought he might write me up but he let me off by stressing (several times) that I needed to get an updated one. He made his point so well (while whispering the whole time) that I already have a current one wrapped around my lifetime license. While I was a frustrated that he came in as prime time was approaching I did appreciate his demeanor and his effort to be quiet. He said he hoped he hadn't messed up my hunt and eased out as quietly as he came in. I actually saw a small buck about thirty minutes after he left. Be ready guys, you never know when the man will show up.

Funny that the year would matter. It's not like you can't print off 100 of this year's form.

Private, lease, public land? Odd if on private. No problem with the check and he was nice and quiet. Find it odd unless on public land tho

I got checked twice in two weeks last year and had not gotten checked in 15 years before. Had my license and harvest records up to date.

Got checked one time a couple years ago. That was the first and only time ever while hunting.

I was a visitor on a lease. The harvest record I had was actually two years old. He was probably mad because it's pretty obvious I'm not doing my part on thinning the herd.

really?? I'd hazzard a guess that 75+% of hunter checking by GWs takes place on private property.

I had one check me when I was a kid and wrote me a ticket for hunting over corn. Said corn was a really long way away in a pasture that wasn't on our property. He said I was hunting ridges that filtered into the pasture. The ticket was thrown out by the judge about a week after he handed it to me. About 4 days after getting the ticket I was climbing up a tree in a different spot and I seen him come slipping down the hill as I was climbing and I stopped. He came in and I pulled my headnet off and he looked at me and grinned and said "I know you're good, I've already checked you" and then told me to have a good day and eased on back out.


Only time I've ever encountered a GW and been checked in the woods. I talked to him many a time at the Kalico Kitchen in Marion AL though.

n2deer and I met the GW in Barbour Co last year in a restaurant in Clayton AL. He's a nice fella.

In 40 years I've been checked 3 times. Once dog hunting when I was 13 or 14. Once on the river fishing and once on a dove field.

Only been checked once in my lifetime and that was about 25 years ago.

Was on a dove hunt put on by a friend.

Officers drove up and checked every person on the field.

I don't remember if anyone got a ticket but I do know that I didn't.

Have not encountered an officer since then.

I've been checked very few times and I'll be 50 next year.
I remember once a long time ago Stan Batemon checked me down in Shelby county during archery season. I was WAAAY back in the woods on a BAD road in my Landcruiser. I was set up on the ground not far from the road and heard a truck coming. I couldnt believe it when I saw it was the GW. He came back through a few min. later since it was a dead end and I thought he was gone. I knew he saw my Landcruiser but figured he was gone. I hunted till dark and went back and that joker was hiding in the bushes waiting on me. About scared me to death!! He waited several hours to find out I had a license and a permit to be on the land.

As much time as I spend in the woods, I've only seen 2 in the woods. One was a dove hunt, the other was on a tract we managed and he had found bait and thought I was the culprit. Luckily, I only had a paint gun in my truck.

Been a while since I have been checked. The few times I have been checked the GW was always polite and respectful and I replied in kind.

always ready and appreciate them doing their job. our gamewarden (baldwin county) has a key to our lease and is welcome anytime.

was checked on a dirt road just outside of union springs. didn't have my harvest registration (had left it on the top of the microwave at the lodge - school hunt). he gave me a warning ticket and called me a couple of days later to remind me to put it back in my pack!

My limited contact with gamewardens has been at Daniel Whites dove hunt where they were polite.

My girlfriends Uncles were both game wardens here in Alabama.

I've never been checked in the woods, only once while fishing. Never had anything to hide though

Me and another guy in the club I was in last year got checked as we got to truck of the morning hunt. My license were good and so was the other guy. The GW did get ill with him bc his orange hat was probably 20 yrs old if not older so it had faded a little. I also got checked the yr before in Cullman the GW was a guy I graduated with. He checked my license. Thank God he didn't ask to check my gun bc it was loaded. Also to add I was in the truck and drove 2 miles down the road to go sign out.
