well, planted chufas in 2 spots, about 1 acre total for the first time 3 weeks ago. Made the trek to spray weeds this wknd, showed up to first plot and it looked like a desert. No weeds, no chufa, just a tremendous amount of turkey tracks, scratchings, and droppings. LOTS of turkey sign, but they hammered the chufas.
Went to the other plot on the other side of property and had roughly half the plot still standing in chufa. i sprayed them but ray charles could have seen the scratchings and tracks in this plot too. It looked like they just found them and were hitting them hard too. I pulled up some and they had nuts under them. I bet the remaining ones dont stand a chance of lasting more than another week.
I was hoping some would last in tot he spring but the pea brained birds aint gonna let that happen

My uncle planted a 4 acre field of them with a row planter. Never seen a hog there until that summer. A hog will find a row and walk it out 400 yards. He said it looked like it had been chisel plowed
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers.......... Si Robertson

Chufa growers live a tough life. There's no solution I know of for turkeys eating the seed.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
