Hard to believe it's been 22 years. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Well written read here. Long, but worth it.

X3. I too remember exactly where I was like it was yesterday. On a 4230 Deere bushogging pastures when it came over the radio. I was listening to 92.3 from MGM. I was 14 years old at the time.

Watched him win several times. Was a huge fan. I still remember where I was when he passed away, same as Dale.

I was doing part-time work dealing sports cards when he died. We were selling at a card show in Kentucky that day. Within seconds of the news a Jewish card dealer had every Davey card and whatnot he had in stock on display marked up %200. He cleaned house that day and we didnt do squat.

Never will forget the morning my dad came and woke me up to tell me Davey had died. Cried my eyes out. His car was on display at the carport parts store in Northport a few wks before he was killed. My granddad knew the mngr there. They let me sit in his car and Rev the engine and all. It was awesome!

My dad and I have a signed, personalized picture from Davey. It'a prized possession of mine.

Also, we were working on putting together a model of his 28 havoline race car when he passed. It's in the same condition as it was on the day he died.

Met him once when I worked the parts counter at the John Deere place in Demopolis. He and his Dad (and uncle?) owned a place near there they hunted on. Maybe around Faunsdale?

I have a $1.00 bill signed by Bobby and Donnie Allison from back in 1970 or so, then the May race at Talladega before Davey died I got his autograph on the bill.

Was 8 years old and obsessed with him. Was at the beach when I saw it on TV, cried like crazy. Wrote their family a letter with my parents when I got back to TN.

Never followed NASCAR after he was gone, just couldnt follow another driver.

I remember the day he died. I was on my way to school at UAB and everyone on the road had their headlights on in rememberance and I remember passing people on the road and looking at them and they were just crying their eyes out. Never much followed Nascar, and it surprised me how it affected people. It was a bad day for the state that day.

Friend of my wife's baby sat him when she was a young teenager. The Allison family are fellow Catholics, too. That took many of my NASCAR friends by surprise back when they were racing.
