I've tried reading the information they give you on the DOR Dept. of Motor Vehicle website. I still can't figure it out. I've waiting in line for a couple of hours before only to be told I didn't one document I needed and I don't want to go through that again. To make things more confusing I'm not even sure I can do it because everything is in my wife's name.
Here is the situation.
Wife and I bought a used car in TN for our daughter. I couldn't make the trip so everything is in my wife's name. I've already got the car insured because I know you have show proof of that at some point. Other than the Bill of Sale (which is in my wife's name) and proof of insurance what else do I need to have to get the car titled and tagged in Alabama. And can I even do it since it's all in my wife's name?

Bill of sale, signed title and her insurance and identification. I think this is all that SHE would need. Since she bought the car, SHE would have to be the one to register the car.

They will probably want to inspect the car also. The last 2 I bought from out of state had to be inspected to verify the VIN number.

I'll take the used car sales arses over those grump a$$, don't want to do nuthin's at the revenue office any day. Before all this is over you gona be ready to whoop some a-- I already do just thinking about it. And when I think of how mad my wife will be when she gets home (you know when mama ain't happy , ain't nobody happy).....I think I'll take the kids out to eat that night and leave her at home with a bottle of wine while she calms down.

I bought a used motorcycle out of state several years back and had to have the bill of sale notarized before they would register it. I think that was new at the time and not sure if they changed it back or not.
Go with the flow and you will end up down the drain!

This thread is useless because they'll think of another piece of paper or another reason what you have isn't right before you go back there. They operate under the three times rule. Until they remember seeing you three times, your paperwork isn't right.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

They will probably want to inspect the car also. The last 2 I bought from out of state had to be inspected to verify the VIN number. Yep..My jeep cherokee came from Tennessee and all they did was take a look at the truck..

Be prepared to pay sales tax, if it wasn't collected at time of sale. Most likely was not on a out of state transaction.
